Drawing For Love

Surprise! Like Celine, I love plants, flowers, and gardening.

The flora used to frame page 13 come from my favorite trees, my Feijoa Sellowiana.

Their leaves are a deep green on top, with a whitish fuzzy underside that create a striking alternating contrast. It's naturally a bush, but gardens and orchards will often have them pruned into trees. It has adorable little popcorn flowers that burst into vibrant flavors (yes you can eat them!) like little red fireworks.

Pollinators don't live where I am, so I have 2 trees I will cross-pollinate by hand in the spring, and have tasty little green fruits in the fall. The fruit's nickname is "pineapple guava", though it's not actually a guava, and it tastes like a mix of pineapple, banana, berries, and a bit zesty and minty.

Like feijoa, I don't fit in with the pineapples nor the guavas, so I often searched for value and beauty from within myself. Then, when someone special came along and recognized my uniqueness, my bi-colored leaves, and my multi-blend of flavors, I felt truly seen. I finally felt loved, from my newest unfurling leaves all the way to my oldest and deepest roots.

Here's to those who may feel overlooked, undervalued, or unappreciated. May life present you with people who love you for who you are.
