I've thought about postcanon or adult Yuuji confronting Mahito again a lot, and my go-to headcanon has always been "Yuuji turns Mahito into a wet smear." Not an unusual take, from what I've seen around in the fandom!

But never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to see it from Gege themselves.

The parts before and after make it even better. The way Yuuji talks about Mahito to Maru like he's just some unruly pest while Mahito is sitting right there, visibly terrified and petrified with it. The sheer dehumanization, how casual it is.

And the two times he does talk to Mahito, it's worse:

I've also often waxed poetic about how one of Yuuji's most compelling character traits is his sheer duality: his capacity for violence that matches his capacity for kindness. After these Modulo chapters and especially this one, I'd say that the former has overtaken the latter.

There are genuine moments of the same immense compassion we saw in JJK—like how he wonders whether Mahito was hurting his dead loved ones. But by and large, even that side of him has grown more twisted. He willingly—and with explicit awareness of the ethics and implications of his actions—agrees and then firmly chooses to strip the entire Japanese populace and the aliens of their bodily autonomy. Depending on what the next chapter reveals, it may extend to all of humanity's bodily autonomy. Even his resolve to see it through for hundreds of years, for better or for worse, positions him in a role akin to a dubiously benevolent deity—detached from humanity, for all that he may love it.
