I know Jing Yuan does his best to treat Yanqing professionally when they’re at work and have faith in him as a knight, like when Yanqing went missing after fighting Jingliu and Jing Yuan when asked said “it is not my place to impede him for fear of his well-being” and “I have confidence in him”, but I just KNOW that if Yanqing actually died this dude would immediately fall to Mara. Losing the High Cloud Quintet did a number on him and I fully believe that he lived in a depressive haze driven by duty until he found Yanqing and Yanqing is his reason for living right now. Losing that boy will be his last straw. There is so so so much unremarked on by the narrative tension around the fact that he has to send his TEENAGE STUDENT (son) onto the battlefield and I think Yanqing dying on a mission he sent him on is his greatest fear. Yukong, fellow charioteer and parent who tried to stop her daughter from becoming a pilot, politely chooses not to comment on this.
