WHY DOES EVERYONE DIE!!

ok, so I’m still really broken up about the Nirnaeth Arnoiediad. but it’s ok. I am strong. I am brave. I can do this.

ok. here goes.

MORE LIKE “IF George.R.R MARTIN WROTE THE SILMARILLION”!!!!

It is hard to miss the fact that the Children of Húrin is full of amazing female characters. Morwen and Niënor’s endurance before they make their way to Doriath and the resilience that keeps them going, Aerin’s quiet strength in the face of adversity, Melian’s wisdom and Nellas’ truthfulness, Finduilas’ love and loyalty, not to mention side characters like Lalaith, Rían and Glóredhel… even in this rather short story there are many, many possibilities to celebrate female characters.

Thoughts like that were what inspired this month. Fanworks let us explore the characters who exist and must exist - and that’s precisely the aim of this project - to have fun, explore, fill prompts, and celebrate ladies being ladies being awesome!

Fic, art, edits, cosplay, meta, gifsets, crafts, fanmixes, rec lists… this is by no means an exhaustive list, anything else you can think of also goes, regardless of skill level, genre, rating or length - you’re good to go as long as it’s female-centric. 

okay so basically right there’s this lord named hurin and basically he pisses off dragon satan, so he puts like a curse him on that all his kin will have terrible things happen to them. hurin dies and his wife is pregnant, so she tells their 8 year old son, turin, to go and live with the elves. so he’s like fine but I’m avenging him later and she’s like k whatevs so 

he goes and lives the the elves and then some stuff happens and he leaves and you know ‘secret lord in hiding’ problems (can i get a hell yeah aragorn?) and meanwhile, his mother has a girl, and names her Nienor.  so some other stuff happens and nienor and their mum wander around for like 10-15 years until Nienor runs into dragon satan at some stage and is like ‘lol like im scared of you loser’ so he does some dragon magic on her and she loses all her memory and forgets how to speak. total mind wipe. her mum finds her again and she can’t get nienor to talk, but her and her friends are like ‘whatever we don’t have time for this shit’ and they keep wandering around pretty much aimlessly until some orcs show up and Nienor like, flips. Full on can’t cope with all this stimuli. So she runs off into the woods, alone, and runs for three days all while taking off all her clothes (for some reason) until these woodland dudes (see: band of babes who i imagine all look like chris and liam hemsworth a little) are passing by and their leader, Turambar, finds her. and he’s like “woah hold up there’s a naked lady here” and instead of being jerks about it they get her clothed and feed her and stuff.

so like, Nienor still can’t talk or communicate beyond sign language and she doesn’t remember anything, like, not even her name, so it’s a lot like Little Mermaid: Middle Earth Edition. they take her back to their woodland town, and they give her a new name and teach her how to talk and stuff again, but like no one knows she’s the daughter of Hurin

Nienor still has mad nightmares from dragon satan’s dragon magic, but like, the only time she ever seems to sleep okay is when Turambar is around, and eventually as she learns to talk she winds up being the most fair maiden in the town and everyone loves her, but she’s all like ‘nope gotta have Turambar in the room if i’m gonna sleep tonight’ and it’s cute as heck

so like the lord of the town, brandir is also like ‘woah man this mystery babe is like the one babe to rule them all’ and is made in love with her, and Nienor kind of knows but she’s like ‘LOL NOPE SORRY DUDE you’re cool and all and we’re buddies but have you seen Turambar?’

and then one day Turambar figures out he’s in love with Nienor and is like ‘welp gonna marry that’ and Brandir is like ‘woah brosef slow down there’s like a war on and stuff’ so they wait a bit, and then Turambar is like ‘NOPE WAITED LONG ENOUGH GONNA MARRY HER NOW’ so Nienor and Turambar get married and they get a house AND IT’S PERFECT

and i was all NIENOR AND TURAMBAR OTP OTP OTP

so like two or three years pass and Nienor and Turambar are loving life and she’s having (or has had, not sure what he meant here) a kid and it’s perf, but then dragon satan shows up nearby, so Turambar’s like ‘well honey I’m off to war have dinner ready by eight’ 

shit goes down and Nienor has a mad Eowyn moment and is like ‘this is so totally not safe, guys, let’s get our shit and get out’ so most people do, including Brandir. Shit gets real pretty quickly and basically their town gets decimated, so Nienor goes a little bit crazy and is like ‘no way gotta go find my husband’s body’ and so her and Brandir wander to nearby the town where the battle took place and she finds Turambar’s body and it is the saddest goddamn thing ever.

and then dragon satan drops a truth bomb and tells them that Turambar wasn’t his real name. he’d changed it to hide his past his past as turin

HER BROTHER. SHE WAS MARRIED TO HER BROTHER AND NEITHER OF THEM KNEW IT AND HOLY SHIT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKING FUCK, TOLKIEN? WHAT THE FUUUUUUuuuuuUUCK
