So before I even start with releasing anything about my comic for now, i'd like to talk about a fact of lightning and that is his height. Because as one might know, in my cover of liberation, he looks like this:
as you can see, he isn't short.
"But curious, why did you draw him taller if he is rather small like this??:"
I am glad you asked, because I have mutliple reasons, most do them just being artistic choices too! Allow me to elaborate.
So when I was a kid, I liked lightning lynx ever since I undertood his character on a deeper level. When it came to really liking a design choice tho (and yes, it might not be the best pick out of history) it was genuinely this:
Younger me was OBSESSED with this panel, I thought that was the coolest shi on earth with his he looked, that was mind blow-💥. Once I saw this panel of him I started to see that kind of design choice as a standard for him any time I imagined him, no matter how much he would've gotten changed. However as much as I love this one, I ALSO love this one:
The newer one simply just had some specific pep in it which made me love it so much. I mean just look at him all bamboozled
But this also meant some changes, which first of all, I always thought he looked a little less intimidating as it used to be, which isn't inherently a bad thing y'know, but what you gotta know me is I LOVE seeing this man throw hands and make it look cool, I wanted him to kick some ass
Anytime I saw this dude throw straight hands or legs as a kid I felt like I was gonna go-
(I know khan roasted his butt less than a second later but that's not the point)
What it also meant as a change was one important fact and that was his height. Cause as you can see here:
Despite him being hunched over or curled into himself like 24/7, at some point it's quite possible to figure out that he's definitely shorter than the rest of the destructix. But remember when I said I really liked that one design in the beginning which I often imagine as a standard? Well:
And well look, obviously in this one, espío is hunched over, however if we picture it we could imagine that if he stood straight he would be maybe a few centimeters taller than lightning. But my point here is actually something different, because what we do know is that sonic is taller than fiona. Now I know Archie and official heights don't always add up, but we do know that sonic is 3,3, 100 cm. But do you know how tall espío is?
About 3,7, or 110 cm which is actually the same height as knuckles
now as I said, obviously Archie doesn't add always up, and lightning in majority of his appearances is portrayed as short, not tall. But if we assume here in this one appernacw from this specific design choice he's about espios height or a little shorter, it would mean he'd be about sonic height or a little taller. Now this is, a one time exception from the majority of his appearances. So what do you do when you find yourself between two cool designs, you really like the character, and you wanna draw him, and the one you like the most isn't really considered the most used one? Simple:
You mix em ( ╹▽╹ )!
In which I kept the height, but kind of tried to mix his features from the more recent design with the one I really like. No idea if this will amount clearly in the future when I'll draw him more, but It was my solution to overthinking this whole matter. Not to mention in fanart, you can always redesign or change a character a bit aslong as it's not problematic and is for fun.
