A/N: Hi everyone, this is a little thing I’ve been working on and this is the beginning of a possible series. It’s going to be a Shoto Todoroki x reader. I would love to have imput!
A sleek black limo drove through the brightened city streets, gliding during the night traffic. Rain hammered against the glossy exterior, the relentless downpour cascading against the roof and streaming across the tinted windows that reflected the vibrant glow of the neon signs and towering buildings.
The limo cut through the streets with unwavering speed, weaving swiftly around the traffic. Horns blared at the limo, blending in with angry shouts from the drivers being left behind. They ignored the chaos and pressed onward without hesitation, paying no mind to the frustration that erupted behind them.
Within the limo, a bodyguard dressed in an all-black suit sat still in the driver's seat, zooming on the road with a blank expression. He wore dark sunglasses concealing his eyes that were zeroed in on everything that was around him, focused on the road and protecting the man that was inside. Flickering his gaze up into the review mirror, the reflection of the tall figure lounging in the leather seat behind him was seen, sitting in the darkened silence.
Shadows loomed over the mans face as his legs stretched comfortable before him, showing off the immaculate black tailored suit he was wearing. He wore a red tie around his neck that was a dark color, matching the shade of blood. His head was lowered, staring at the blank screen of the phone he held in his hands. He pressed the side button, watching the screen come to life showing the bland wallpaper and billions of notifications he chooses to leave unopened.
The pale light illuminated off of his phone, shining onto his striking mismatched eyes; one a piercing blue that was the shade of ice, the other a deep gray that was the color of storm clouds. His gaze lingered on the recent messages that were sent, the messages going unanswered, the small font of them being read appearing underneath each of them.
“Dammit Rose,” He murmured, a pained expression appearing on his face. He reached a slender hand up and ran it through his neatly done hair. The bodyguard peered back into the mirror, staring at the man in the backseat, finding himself staring at him for a moment, catching the light glowing on his pale skin. The burn on his face was clear within the phone light, showing off the bright red burn that was etched over his gray colored eye.
A rare soft look crossed on the guard’s face, replacing the usual dull, stoic face that he normally held. The man looked rough, the once cold expression he held dropped, showing the other side, the one that was more broken and pained. The guard cleared his throat, “Everything alright, Mr. Todoroki?”
“Fine,” Todoroki answered blandly, pressing a few buttons on his phone. He watched the call begin to go through, raising the phone to his ear and listening to the sounds of ringing. Each ring echoed in his mind, stretching his patience thinner, causing his irritation to grow with each passing second. It felt like the one call was dragging on, each ring seeming to get louder as he waited for the woman to answer.
When the last ring went off about to fade, the call connected. The woman picked up, ending the ruthless ringing and exchanging it for the faint sound of running water. She spoke, her voice coming out of the speaker in a low manner, making her sound smooth.
“Hey,” Rose cooed, her voice low and smooth. Todoroki hissed, anger clear in his tone, “You’re late.”
“Hm, did you get me the jacket I asked for?” Rose asked, the water shutting off. The moment her voice came through, his heart tried to jump out of his chest, slamming against his ribcage. No matter how many times she spoke, she always had the same effect on him. She could scream, whisper, purr, it would all cause the same feeling to appear within him
The anger that had been present before melted away, replaced by the familiar rush that came with the sound of her voice. His pulse quickened, the line remaining silent as her words repeated in his head, each syllable he held onto. Rose hummed, “Todoroki?”
“Yes…” He blurted, clearing his throat. Rose purred, the sound of her slipping into the water being heard, “Wonderful, have it shipped to my address.”
“Are you coming to the ball with me?” Todoroki asked, furrowing his brows. Rose remained silent, a familiar lump beginning to grow in Todoroki’s throat when her voice disappeared. He rubbed his hands on his suit slacks, his nerves spiking at the sudden quietness from the other line. Rose spoke, a smirk clear on her face as she uttered her words, “I don’t think so.”
“What do you mean?” Todoroki snapped, the anger from before returning. His voice cracked as those words slipped past his pale lips, showing the slight desperation. Rose chuckled, the sound seductive and alluring, “You know what I mean Todoroki, I don’t want to go to the ball because I rather not be seen in public with you.”
“Are you kidding me, Rose? Stop messing around,” Todoroki whispered, trying to conceal the brokenness in his voice, “I can’t go to this party by myself.”
“I’ve been meaning to tell you this, I’ve been doing some thinking lately and I don’t like being seen in general with you,” Rose exclaimed, picking at her cuticles. Todoroki gulped, releasing a shaken breath, “Rose…”
“A little word of advice Todoroki,” Rose stated, her voice clear and burning, “All of those expensive and rich suits you own won’t melt the fact that you are and always will be a cold dead prince.”
His lips parted, trying to think of a response, but before a single word could leave his mouth, the line went dead. The abrupt silenced sent a chill down his spine, dancing along the curves. His grip tightened around the phone until his knuckles turned white, his two-colored eyes glaring at the screen, watching it fade black.
The reflection of his burn showed in the black screen causing his blood to boil. He stared at the blank screen that showed the ended call, plunging the limp into silence only being broken by the steady drum of rain. The bodyguard spoke, glancing over his shoulder from the front seat, “Mr. Todoroki, we have arrived at our destination.”
“Thank you,” Todoroki murmured. He shot one final glance at the screen; no text or call from the woman appearing, causing his heart to ache. A deep shaken sigh escaped his lips as he deposited the phone into his slack pockets. Taking one final deep breath, he turned and opened the limo door, preparing for the world outside of the quiet darkness.
As soon as he stepped outside the limp, Todoroki was met with bright flashing camera lights from paparazzi who began their rapid fire of questions. The door shut behind him as his hands reached up, straightening his suit out, fixing back into his cold composure. His cold gaze searched through the crowd, eyeing everyone that was standing around the carpet. He recognized many reporting agencies who were waiting to get any information from the celebrities invited to the event.
Without a single word, he walked, striding down the red carpet as more reporters shouted and called out his names. Each of their calls fell silent to his ears as he moved, the flashing of photos being taken capturing every moment with the hopes of there being something to publish; something to ruin his career.
“Mr. Todoroki, are you still looking for your older brother?”
“Todoroki, where is your mother?”
“What are the latest plans for Shoto Agencies!”
“How does it feel be following in your father’s footsteps?” Someone shouted, her voice carrying over the crowd and reaching his ears. That question hit him hard.
He stopped mid-step, frozen in place at the sudden question. He turned his head, his gaze catching the sight of a reporter standing nearby. She gripped a microphone in her hand, meeting his eyes without hesitation, showing deep black pearls that were filled with a disgusted look. His expression stayed blank and unnerved, but at his side, his fist clenched, nails digging into his palms. Crescent-shaped marks began to form on his skin, leaving small indents into his hands as he held eye contact with the woman.
His hardened eyes lingered on her black ponytail that was pulled back and out of her face. She had a dangerous look in her expression, a sharp, confident look that immediately put him on edge. A frown tugged at his lips the longer he stared back, a headache beginning to form, aching with each second that passed.
Drifting his gaze away from the reporter, her spared her not another glance, refusing to fuel the fire in her eyes. Todoroki continued toward the entrance of the building, striding inside while she stayed behind with the cluster of reporters. All of their attention was on the next celebrity, walking down the carpet capturing their attention while she stared at the door where Todoroki had walked through
Once out of sight from the crowd, Todoroki slowly unclenched his fists and let out a deep breath, tension sprouting from his whole form. The mask he wore settling back into place as the familiar feeling of control was placed back into his hands, his emotions drawing back. Deeper into the building, the blaring of music could be heard, drifting through the halls, growing louder with each step Todoroki took until his gaze landed on the bright flashing-colored lights.
“Let it begin,” He scowled, narrowing his eyes at the sight.
