I think ppl on this website n ppl in academia n ppl in most places I frequent have a very unhealthy view towards addicts n it’s really exhausting. How anyone can dehumanize addicts is beyond me n it’s especially telling when someone says something disgusting about addicts n then follows it up w “my dad was abusive n an addict that’s why I’m entitled to say this horrible thing” without realizing life exists beyond them/ the world doesn’t revolve only around their lived experiences n addicts are marginalized ppl that aren’t inherently bad. The lot of them are battling mental illness n homelessness/extreme poverty. Nobody thinks they’re cool for being an addict lol ppl romanticize their suffering in this absurdist way bc it’s easier to survive that way. It’s seriously such a fucking simple concept n I’m sick of all these smug idiots making condescending remarks abt addiction n then feeling validated in doing so like get the actual fuck over yourselves
