CSU-Pueblo students suffer from a serious case of senioritis
It has only been two weeks into the semester and many students at Colorado State University-Pueblo are already experiencing symptoms of senioritis. Symptoms of senioritis include laziness, lack of studying, an excessive use of Netflix, repeated absences and an overuse of sweatpants. The only known cure of senioritis is graduation.
âIâll do literally anything to avoid homework at this point. I drove out to the reservoir and picked up trash on the weekend so that I could feel productive without actually engaging in school work,â senior, Zeta Poulin, said.Â
Student Brad Valdez said that he engages in more technology based distractions.Â
âMost of the time I get lost in various Youtube videos but eventually I get around to the school work,â Valdez added.Â
Joe Devendorf, a senior at CSU-Pueblo, said that social media can be distracting at times.Â
âI mainly watch movie trailers, music videos or art videos on Youtube, and then realize I have a paper due the next day,â Devendorf said.Â
There are some serious consequences when students give in to senioritis. The main consequence can mostly affect their grades.Â
According to Valdez, he has already missed the due date for a paper assignment.Â
âThis is something I havenât done throughout my college career,â Valdez said.Â
âWith procrastination comes hasty work that wasnât always the neatest or highest quality work which then is reflected in my grade,â Devendorf added.Â
Senioritis symptoms can begin as early as junior year and progresses swiftly into senior year.Â
âI thought I had senioritis last year but that was like getting a minor cold compared to what now feels like Ebola,â Poulin said.Â
There are ways to overcome senioritis including study sessions with friends as well as avoiding any type of technology that can become a distraction. As far as advice for incoming freshmen, sophomores and juniors, Valdez said that after being in school for over 16 years, it is almost inevitable.Â
âBut you have to keep going, youâre almost there,â Valdez added.Â
Devendorf said that unless it is required, do not attempt to complete an assignment in one sitting.Â
âSpace out your work and use some time management,â Devendorf said.Â
