This article discusses how LGBT people may not be comfortable disclosing their sexual orientation or gender identity to health care providers because of social stigmaâs. The presence of interpreters did not change whether the Deaf LGBT people wanted to share their information. The study also thinks that it would benefit Deaf LGBT people to think of their risks by not disclosing even if they arenât fully sure of revealing their identities.

This is a research article following 43 gay men and lesbians showing their perceptions and their social support systems. It is described how both Deaf and LGBT people may have experienced discrimination and oppression and that needs to be taken account of by people like practitioners and other people in order for everyone to be equal. It is also described how even though there are multiple marginalizationâs that these people were able to find resources and support networks. This relates to issues because deaf LGBT people might have difficulty finding resources and support networks that work for them.

This text describes the deaf lesbian couple of Dutchesneau and McCullough and how they decided to have a child who was deaf because they wanted their childâs main language to be the same as theirâs. The article goes further in detail as it discusses the ethics of having a child designed to have a disability, along with discussing how reproduction should be monitored it at all as it is the woman and couples choice to have a child or not along with if possible having the same disability as the parent. It is also discussed how medicine is usually used to better a personâs life or treat and prevent diseases but in this case the disability would help keep the community these people have. This article is also about deaf LGBT members as people think they have some right to control the deaf LGBT members even though its not their lifeâs to control.

This video explains some struggles Deaf LGBT people have had and when there hasnât been struggles. In the video it is described how both woman when having come out their families shunned them for a time but eventually got over their issues. It is also discussed if there were any issues with being Deaf or Deaf and Gay and in the video they donât see a connection although there may have been one being that they lost a part of their community for a time being their family shunning them while although they still had their friends that were fine with it, it can be hard to know your family doesnât accept you for who you are even if its only for a limited time until they get over themselves.
On his new show This Close, the gay, deaf writer and actor is paving a new path.
This article describes how Josh Feldman hadnât seen a gay, Deaf character on TV so he made one. The article mostly followâs how Feldman creates plot points for the show, being from his own life and experiences it is also described how not seeing representation on TV made him want to make his own representation and this stems yet again into representation being important for people so they feel as if they are in a community with different people rather then alone in the world.
This describes many aspects of the Deaf and LGBT experience and the difficulty accessing mental health programs. This is prevalent because of the fact that being in these categories is a âdouble minorityâ as described in multiple sources making it difficult to feel welcome for many people in these communities. This is further described on this page as if they came out as a part of the LGBT community they feared they would lose their current social network and community because of peopleâs prejudices towards people in the LGBT community not agreeing in some cases that they should even be alive. Throughout this the history of the Deaf and LGBT community is gone into describing how in 1978 a brothers and sisters club was formed for LGBT people in London and in following years Deaf LGBT clubs started up. Famous Deaf LGBT people were also gone into such as Martin Richie and the McCulloughâs the first being in a tv show and the second being a deaf lesbian couple who both had traumatic early lives. The future is then talked about and then some problems such as their being a small amount of deaf LGBT members that can be therapists for people in the same community especially when they might be a part of the same social circles.
Chella Man is a 19-year-old artist, leaving his mark on the world.
This webpage describes the thoughts of a 19 year old deaf trans artist that because of not seeing enough representation decided to be the representation he wanted to see. Chella is on multiple social media sites with large followingâs through this Chella is able to accomplish his goal of creating a community. This shows how while their are groups that show some representation their isnât always something that includes everyone and that may cause people to feel without a community. This is important for people in both the Deaf and LGBT communities to know about as it will help us build better more inclusive communities for everyone.

This website is a good resource for LGBTQIA+ deaf people as it is on the National association for the Deafâs website and includes information about different organizations they focus even further on LGBT resources. Throughout the webpage the history is also described as the Deaf LGBT+ section was added in 2010 after a conference in Philadelphia, PA. The website also shows that it may show some repression as it costs an additional $5.00 to join the LGBT member section, although this may just be for funding. As described above resources are also shown such as the Rainbow alliance of the Deaf, Deaf Queer resource center and the Deaf Lesbian Festival. These are all things that are good in that there is progress and acknowledgement of the LGBT community in the Deaf community but it also shows how the support has not always been there and was only formally added in 2010.
