coming along to give my 2 cents on the phod and post hl content.... as a podcast producer by day, i understand that a lot of people have issues with the scripted segments, spons, ads, and i agree that they could do more unscripted and unstructured episodes. however people underestimate how fucking hard it is to get a pod off the ground and the amount of work that goes into sustaining it and making it financially feasible. like dnp have a producer, socials producer, editor, and clips editor. that's a hell of a lot of money. do i think they should've paused the pod or swapped it to biweekly? yes. but also, they probably still need to make it all worthwhile with the expensive set and team, etc.
also ive seen ppl ragging on the producers for their choices and the content, which i dont think is fair. you cant make every listener happy and at the end of the day they're just doing their job and what dnp propose.
as a gen z phannie who's been watching casually since 2016, i also get hit with the feels over how different this content is, but i always remind myself that things are ever changing. the phod will not be forever (obvs it will stop during tour). i do miss the early hl content like anniversary, ghost hunting, hotel video, but as they said its exhausting and they're not that young anymore (soz lol). also makes sense now that we know they've been working on a tour.
i do have concerns abt the tour as well, i just dont rlly know what its actually going to contain yk??? like i get its the phan relationship hard launch tour, the first time they get to be completely themselves, but i have such a bad imagination i can't even guess at what there actually is to do, apart from going thru the last 16 years of lore (god pls dont let it be that). but im sure they'll blow it out of the park as per usual.
anyway sorry for the crazy long rant i spend a lot of time thinking abt content (its my job lol) but at the end of day i just love dan and phil! and im so so glad they get to be fully out and proud and frankly they deserve to torture us however they please after what we put them through.
Thank you for your 2 cents anon. It's fascinating to hear about the pod producing side of things and it's easy to forget how much hard work goes into making this content even when it's not everyone's cup of tea.
No worries about the long rant - long yaps are welcome here! I agree 100% about the main thing is them being out and proud and how beautiful that is. A subset of the phandom have put dnp through the ringer and it's healing to be a part of this new era of forgiveness.
I echo the sentiments about the tour, to be honest the comedy variety show has not been my kind of content. I watched Bo Burnham's stand up religiously and could never separate the two. Obviously, dnp aren't actually comics who have come up testing jokes on crowds. They essentially test on the tour. And it's just never hit for me personally.
In terms of high effort content vs low effort content, I think I'm just the type of phannie to enjoy low fi, low key content. I prefer the less produced stuff and that's just me. The ghost vid, the London rat vid and the four seasons video were great. But I love dnp just at the phouse, with a pizza or a cosy game and chatting. It's, for me, where we really get to see their chemistry as an "light entertainment duo".
