very good reasons:

-Wings can be an allegory for homosexuality, and different types of birds can add depth to the characters alongside the conditions of the wings. And worldbuilding like wings being not-ok to show to society would ADD to that comparison!!

-Will could start getting wings at around season 3, when he becomes aware of his attraction towards Mike (I hc season 3, but really it can be a lot of different moments) and Mike could get his once Will is away in Lenora, showcasing their individual realizations and subsequent hardships surrounding their relationship!

-ALSO Jonathan clocking Will in season 4? In the avian-byler AU he could also clock the increasing amounts of feathers around the house (symbolizing the signs Jonathan picked up on!!)

-As I said before, different types of birds could shed insight into their story! And they don’t even have to be real birds!! Like Will could have phoenix wings to symbolize rising above his trauma.
