you know what I just realized? In the weirdmaggedon pyramid, when Ford tells Stan they can't use the memory gun to erase Bill because Ford has a metal plate in his head, that's probably the first time Stan is hearing about that. we as the audience see Ford tell Dipper about the metal plate, but there's no reason for Stan to know about it at that point. which begs the question: what was going through Stan's mind when he heard that?

yes exactly!!!! externally he'd still be a little bit abrasive, a little bit on edge. but internally, he'd be so wracked with guilt. Stan was always going to offer himself up as a sacrifice for his family, that's just who he is, but I think after finding this out, after really reckoning with the mental and physical trauma that Ford went through, he'd feel even more like this was a penance. like maybe this is what he deserves.
