Amazing Vintage Key Guns

In the present day, prison guards do not carry firearms often unless they’re isolated from the prison population. In the olden days, guards (also known as “turnkeys”) needed some extra help with the prisoners, especially when opening cell doors which usually required two hands. To solve this problem, someone invented the key gun. The information available on the invention is limited. That “someone” was quite a unique person to ingeniously think of making a gun from a key. Given the size of the “gun’s” parts, it was probably someone who made watches. The craftsmanship on some of these is spectacular. The oldest key gun in the collection is from the 16th century.
