So I have a âparty sideâ and a âbusiness side.âÂ
When Iâm at work, I keep my hair parted on the left, and shirts with at least a 3/4 sleeve on.
When Iâm NOT at work, my hair is parted on the right to show off my shaved side panel, and I like to rock my sleeve tattoo that goes from about my shoulder down to my elbow. I also have about 3 more ear piercings on that side, too!Â
Do you have a secret non-work persona?
First time illustrating my tattoo! Man, Iâm gonna have to think of a good way to shorthand that thing.Â
Also, vague yet menacing nod to Archie in my side panel.Â
They finally got me.
Not necessary to live, except for the sometimes when itâs necessary.Â

âThe Magnus and the Maidenâ is now available for order over at Aois21 Publishing, on Amazon, and on Barnes & Noble! Also, if you are interested in ordering posters of either map illustration that I created for the ebook, theyâre available now, too, over at the Aois21 Limited page both here and here!Â
By the way, did I mention that I love you forever? Youâre the only internet for me. Iâm a one-internet woman now.Â
...Are you still here? Go check out the book!Â
In this month's episode, Keith F. Shovlin of aois21 and author Paul Dickinson Russell welcomes two guests onto the podcast, author Philip J. Sipkov and illustrator Rebecca Head, to discuss their new release, The Magnus and the Maiden, now available for preorder. Paul learns from Phil on the inspiration behind his mystical world and the research process that guided him. He also learned from Rebecca about the details of the story that helped her to visually craft a cover and other illustrations. Follow us on Twitter @PublishPodcast or on Facebook at Facebook.com/PublishPodcast.
Podcast! I got interviewed for the "Publish Me" podcast over at aois21 publishing about the book I illustrated, "The Magnus and the Maiden!" Check it out if you want to hear my weird voice recorded and captured for all time talking about artsy things and arthropod rafts.
Also, did I mention that our book is now available for preorder here?
...Oh, I did? Hmm. Well, thatâs awkward.Â
Hmm.
Hmmmmmm.

Holy cow, guys, I illustrated a book!!!Â
The amazing folks over at aois21 publishing have somehow fallen for my master ruse in which I call myself an âartist,â and so they paired me up with author Philip J. Sipkov to illustrate his novella, âThe Magnus and the Maiden.â
I've designed the cover, as well as two companion maps that will be inside the book (one of which you can see here)...The final bells and whistles are still being glued onto the final piece over at aois21, but the ebook is finally available for preorder!!!!
Things that are still coming:Â
Posters of the maps, if youâve just always wanted to attach my artwork to your walls that didnât come from your own home printer.Â
A podcast interview with author Philip Sipkov and myself, which we recorded with aois21 just over the weekend, and should be up soon!
Eventually, if the ebook does well...a paperback! So...you know what to do.
...I mean, guys! This is my first (published) book ever! I am really, genuinely, very excited about this project. If you have ever liked my art and wanted for me to make more, then definitely consider supporting this project and grabbing yourself a copy, or a poster, or maybe even just leaving a nice comment :)Â
And thank you guys for all of your wonderful amazingness, always.Â
Really, thanks.
Weddings!
...Not mine. This is hands-down the best commission I've ever received. It had to include: the bride, groom, and their dog flying around in planes with a heart in the contrails, the skyline of Chicago, and "somewhere, penguins."Â
Also, hair is bliss to draw. Especially big-ass Texas hair.Â
Hey, remember these guys? If not (or if so), now's the perfect time to click through and check out the mini-comic that I made a little while ago. It's been put into a new format that's easier to read than just scrolling through the archives, unless you enjoy that sort of thing.
Also: I am going to be at CAKE Chicago this Saturday, and am getting excited! I also plan to have more copies of "My Boyfriend, The Dragon" to go around as well, if you ask nicely. Come say hi!
No matter how long you've been cutting/dying your own hair... never a good idea. Do not attempt at home.
I may have actually made it look cuter in the comic, there is definitely some two-steppage action going on above my face today.
...then he transfigured into an owl and flew away.Â

Still alive! After eight long, wonderful years in Washington DC, I finally made the move halfway across the country to live in Chicago.
It's taken a while to get plugged in, what with jobs and friends and family, but I finally feel as though I've gotten myself comfortably established, to a reasonable degree. I will miss the East Coast and all of the wonderful people, but look forward to getting to celebrate the art of my new city at CAKE this summer, if any of you plan on being there!Â
Thanks, Jenna Marbles, for spearheading the "things I'm bad at" campaign. I feel much better now.Â
And Happy Valentine's Day, you nerds!
