I'm having trouble with a bit of my world building. The main idea of my magic system is how their past shapes them as people and being forced by others into being something you're not. Some examples would be a character that's adopted and raised as a substitute for a noble family heir, so as they grow up the child almost looks like their twin, children raised during war being stronger than those raised during peacetimes, or a child that grew up in the wild raised by wolves can semi-shapeshift and has trouble relating to humans. Now that's where the rabbithole starts for me, a character that's a wild child raised by animals wouldn't see themselves as human, much less as a boy or a girl, so that raises the question if you have a daughter why not just raise them as a boy to have the son you want? Now, I need to come up with drawbacks on why this isn't done other than being looked down on by society.
