They piss eachother off sometimes I'm SURE. I like angst without angst, just two grown men being petty is my favorite type of thing. Grace is naturally prob a caretaker or accidentally dumbs things down for Simon when he's in teacher mode and he cares so so so much about this human and feels for all that he's been through that it probably hurts Ryland as well just THINKING about it. And then Simon HATES being worried over and he feels like ryland is being patronizing and fussy and trying to tamp down his freedom. Simon's immature and impulsive, be didn't really have time to be a moody teenager, so he's all over the goddamn place before he realizes that grace actually gives a real fuck about him and is GENUINELY coming from concern which is A Lot for Simon to come to terms with. It makes him hurt and yearn in a way he hasn't ever felt, in a way that feels dangerous and so he creates even more space between them which inevitably leads to some sort of confrontation and then working things out, but just at a certain point the two of them are ACHING about eachother wanting to take care of each other but both not being able to quite yet... Ah yaoi..

Also it is very very important to me that Simon gets a chance to start healing and processing all the trauma he's been through before he gets into a relationship with anyone. I rlly like aus that have him idolize grace, see him as a savior or angel and such and that makes a good opportunity for something really unhealthy and complex, but I don't really write Simon as that because he doesn't think god would ever save him, he's hurt too many to be sent anywhere but hell, so he takes a long time probably feeling cautious and undeserving of his savior, probably even having some anger there. "I was supposed to die, I was supposed to repent, this was my sacrifice to a cause bigger than myself and you destroyed the sentiment of that by saving me"
