This is less related to the prompt than it is to my MerMay illustrations in general! I've been trying to draw a collection of mermaids in different drinks so I took the opportunity to add to it with this prompt!

Endangered pt 2

The vaquita is the world's smallest porpoise and the most endangered mammal in the world, with an estimated less than ten remaining. They're found in the Gulf of California, Mexico and are often caught in gillnets as a bycatch.

Endangered pt 1

I couldn't think of what to draw for muppets when I was thinking of ideas for the prompts but when I looked up endangered, I couldn't decide on what I wanted to draw so I decided to work on two parts for endangered.

I was originally going to draw the Hawaiian monk seal. They live near Hawai'i, mostly in Papahānaumokuākea, northwest of the Hawaiian islands. There are only about 1,600 Hawaiian monk seals left in the world.

As I was looking up endangered sea animals though, I found out that albatrosses were also on the list and their expressions look so unimpressed that I had to add them to the illustration and turn it into a medley of animals!

The Moon Goddess pt. 1

For Mer-thology, I wanted to draw Chang'e, the Chinese goddess of the moon 🌙

Her husband, Hou Yi, was granted an elixir of immortality after shooting down nine out of ten suns to prevent the Earth from becoming too hot. He didn't want to be immortal without his wife and decided to wait before drinking it. He gave it to Chang'e for safekeeping but after his apprentice tried to steal it while Hou Yi was hunting, she decided to drink the elixir herself. She then ascended to the moon. Hou Yi was heartbroken and left out fruits and cakes for her every night to show that he was thinking of her.
