Not enough content exploring how isolated YΕ«ji must've felt just by being different, and I find it such a waste that canon didn't delve into YΕ«ji's childhood that much. With how utterly messy his whole family situation is and how he's basically a freak of nature, I really doubt his childhood would've been all that mundane.
Even in present day, it's kind of obvious how lonely YΕ«ji is, seeing as it doesn't seem like he had any friends outside of his senpais in Sendai, and we barely see any mentions of anyone he may be close to that isn't his grandpa.
The comedic framing of ep 1 ss1 around YΕ«ji's extraordinary abilities really drew our attention away from how "other" he seemed to the other kids, which is why I really adored ep 7 ss3 with Amai's flashback of YΕ«ji, just from that short scene alone I could gleam just how uncanny YΕ«ji was when seen in the eyes of a civilian outsider.
I'm yapping atp but man, if there's any chance of the anime adding onto YΕ«ji's backstory (which I doubt, it's been quite faithful to the manga thus far) I really REALLY hope they show us the distance YΕ«ji felt towards the other kids, or just anything that shows us his isolation and loneliness.
