Reading the Priory first and then reading a Day of Fallen Night adds a lot of context for some characters. Like when we’re introduced to Glorian Shieldheart, she’s been a legend for centuries, a force of nature, a warrior who carried her baby on her hip as she led her people to victory. However when she appears in a Day of Fallen Night, it’s like she’s a child, she’s loves sweets and playing in the snow with her friends, she loves horseback riding, she loves her papa, she’s scared of her mom, she just wants her mom to be proud, she wants to be a good queen, there’s so much burden on her, she’s a child who just lost her parents and now needs to bear a child herself. She’s a child and she now must lead to country to war. She’s just a child.

you’ve got to be careful reading fantasy books that are also romances because when the horny scenes arrive they’ll say shit like “i had a dream you were still a godsinger, and i was your shrine” and “i may not be your queen, but i am yours, and you will find that i can be very generous”

I really want a movie where there’s this Dark Brooding Male Hero who’s like, a total badass, and during all the fight scenes he keeps getting flashbacks to happy images of his wife, and like his whole narrative is framed around his wife, and all the other heroes on his team know that he’s got this passion and vengeance and think it all has to do with his dead wife… but then near the end of the movie his wife shows up and he’s like “hey babe” they’re all shocked and they’re like, “Wait I thought all your power and passion came from avenging your dead wife?” and he’s like “no bro, I just really love my wife, she’s really cool, she’s what keeps me going” like… a reverse fridge
