Cripplepunk Soliloquies

Hullo, I’m Tres.

I am a neurodivergent, mostly physically-abled person who suffers chronic migraines and other minor pains. I am here to help with admin tasks and tech consultancy, including (but not necessarily limited to) screen reader accessibility and the digital proofing process. The project sorta fell into my lap through a mutual connection to Aiden, who directly asked for my help for my technological expertise.

every once in a while you need to eat something yummy. or go on a walk. or a trip to the zoo. take a hot shower. cry your eyes out. dance. listen to music. draw for way to long. write. laugh. sit in a cafe with a friend. paint your nails. dye your hair. go on a run. pet a cat

sometimes you need to do things that are cathartic or make yourself feel alive. sometimes you need the reminder of why you’re fighting so hard to stay alive

Everyone weighs their physical and mental/emotional health against one another in constantly shifting balance; inevitably, there are times when we choose to accept consequences to one for the sake of the other.

We are Nebula, a DeafBlind and disabled DID system. We are an artist, and are slowly figuring out how to create art that honours our changing experience and perception of the world. We are super excited to be involved with Cripplepunk Soliloquies, and are working behind the scenes to ensure everything is accessible to our fellow blind & deafblind creatives.

Cripplepunk Soliloquies is an upcoming literature magazine centered on the disabled experience. It is inspired by the cripplepunk movement, which began on tumblr in 2014 by Tai Trewhella (aka user @crpl-pnk ).

All of our artists and most of our team are disabled and our goal is both to represent our experiences honestly and accessibly for as many people as possible. The art and writing in this project show the whole spectrum of what makes up disabled life, pain and beauty in one place. We are raising money to cover the costs of publishing. A family friend (don't know her too well) tried to hug me as she was leaving, and I politely tried asking her not to because 1) I'm in pain and 2) my spine is deteriorating due to a chemo drug. I really mean it when I say you can't hug me. But this bitch just went "no I'm gonna hug you" and shook me around and squeezed me like a dish towel while I was trying to push her off, and now a section of my spine and ribs is so fucked up I can't bend it and it really hurts. She literally injured me just because she couldn't take no for a fucking answer.

Like. This is why I have learned helplessness. This is why I give up so easily. At some point, having boundaries and asserting yourself and communicating your needs doesn't do jack fucking shit, because if people want to, they can overpower you and physically harm you in the process anyway. For nothing.
