summary:Â Abby and Indigo run into 5SOS in the street.
I walk down the lopsided streets of Downtown, talking to Indigo absent-mindedly. The December air bites at any exposed skin, and I shiver. Indigo gives me a look.
âItâs only 45 degrees, how are you cold??â she asks, and I throw her a glare.Â
âItâs way colder than last week! It was 65 last week,â I complain, and Indigo laughs.
âWelcome to Charleston, where Mother Nature canât decide what the frick sheâs doing,â she jokes, and I laugh. âOh wait wait wait I gotta text from my sister,â she says, and we stop for a moment. I take the opportunity to glance around, and my eyes land on a familiar face. I smack Indigoâs arm to get her attention, and she glares at me.
âIsnât that Michael Clifford??â I ask, pointing in the vague direction of where I saw him. She squints, then shrugs and goes back to texting her sister. I look harder, then see the rest of 5SOS. I bite my lip to hold back a squeal of excitement. âIt is Michael Clifford! And the rest of them are over there too!â I say, jostling Indigo.Â
âStop, youâre making me dizzy,â she says, and I apologize. She looks back over to where I pointed earlier. âOh, well wouldja look at that, it is 5SOS, cool.â I glare at her.
ââOh look it is 5SOSâ??? How are you not freaking out right now?? Itâs 5SOS!!!â I squeal excitedly. Indigo rolls her eyes.
âSome of us arenât obsessed with them,â she says, and I groan, exasperated. âWhat, would you like me to walk you over there to say hi??â she asks sarcastically.
âActually yes,â I say, giving her my best puppy-eyes. She gives me a look.
âYouâre an adult, you can do it, I believe in you,â she says, and I huff.
âBut youâre gonna come with me anyway, and I wonât take no for an answer,â I insist, then drag her by the arm over to where they are. I hear her sigh, but she offers no resistance. I know my face must be blood red as I approach them, but whatever, I can just blame it on the cold.
âHi, sorry for bothering you, but my friend and I here are really big fans and just wanted to say hi,â I say, but trail off because I donât know how to continue. Indigo snatches her arm away from me.
âWell I wouldnât say Iâm a âreally big fanâ but okay. Also, itâd be nice to have circulation in my arm,â she says, glaring at me. I smile apologetically while the boys laugh.
âYouâre not bothering us, we love meeting our fans!â Luke says brightly.
âWell, in this case fan,â Calum deadpans. I make a pfft sound.
âSheâs a fan, she just doesnât know it yet,â I say matter-of-factly, and Indigo glowers at me.Â
âSuuuuuureeee,â she says, rolling her eyes. Ashton looks at her with an incredulous look.
âI think we have a challenge on our hands!â he exclaims, and I clap my gloved hands together. Indigoâs eyes widen.
âNo no no no no no, thatâs fine, Iâm good, thanks but no thanks,â she says, waving her hands wildly, but everyone else, myself included, gives each other a look, and we all break into song. Granted, we all start singing a different song, and weâre all horribly out of tune. Indigo claps her hands over her ears, and we all laugh. She pulls her hands from her ears.
âYâall done?â she asks, looking slightly dizzy. I nod, still laughing. I look at my phoneâs clock.
âWell, we have to get going pretty soon, so can we take a picture?â I ask, and the guys nod.Â
âIâll take it,â Indigo offers, but I shut her down real quick.
âNu-uh, missy, weâre taking a selfie and youâre gonna be in it,â I insist, pulling her into the group. I end up closest to the camera, right by Luke, who decides itâs a great idea to wrap an arm around my shoulder, which paralyzes me for about two seconds. Indigo stands between Ashton and Calum. She does smile, and just before I take the picture, Ashton kisses Indigo on the cheek. Before she reacts or lets her smile slip, I take the picture with him still kissing her cheek. I put my phone back in my pocket, and unconsciously reach up to touch Lukeâs hand, which is still on my shoulder. He laces his fingers with mine, and thatâs when I realize what I just did. My cheeks flame, and to distract myself, I look over to where Indigo is death-glaring Ashton for kissing her, but I can see the corners of her mouth flickering upwards. I bite my lip to hold back a squeal.
âWhatcha gonna do about it?â Ashton says teasingly, and Indigo ponders for a moment, then presses up on her toes to whisper something in his ear. His face goes red and his eyes widen. âNo thank you Iâd really prefer to actually be able to have kids at some point,â he says, and Indigo grins smugly while the rest of us erupt in laughter.Â
âItâs been nice meeting yâall, but unfortunately, Indie and I have to go,â I say after laughing. Luke squeezes my hand and lets go.Â
âWait, we never got your names,â Michael says, and I resist the urge to smack myself in the face.
âIâm Abby, sheâs Indigo,â I say. Luke smiles down at me.
âIt was nice to meet you two,â he says, and leans down to kiss the top of my head. âYou got a number to go with that name?â I freeze (no pun intended).Â
âUh- I yeah, hold on,â I stutter, pulling out my phone. I read out my number to Luke, who puts it in his phone immediately.Â
âIâll go ahead and text you just to make sure,â he says, and begins typing on his phone. I wait for a few seconds for his text to come through, but it never does.
âUhm, lemme make sure I read it right,â I say, face flushing a bright pink. Lukeâs phone dings. He reads it and laughs. I raise my eyebrows, then show him my number because I donât trust myself to be able to read it off right. He repeats the process, and this time I actually do get the text. I read it and blush even harder.Â
âYou wanna go out with me?â it reads. I look up and Luke, whoâs grinning like a complete idiot, and just nod.Â
âGreat! Iâll text you time and place, okay?â he says, and I just nod again, shocked.Â
âOkay, well Indie and I are gonna leave then, weâll see you around,â I say, and Indigo smirks at me. She glances back at Ashton, and I practically see a fricking lightbulb above her head as she walks up to him and kisses him on the cheek. As she pulls away, she winks at him and walks away, hair swishing behind her as I struggle to catch up.Â
âI canât believe you just did that!â I exclaim, and she laughs, well, more of a cackle.
âAnd I canât believe you actually accepted that date invitation,â she teases. I blush.
âIâm never gonna live this down, am I?â I groan.
