my life has become a series of me humming songs and slowly realizing that they’re from musicals that i swore i would never watch… god help me. also, happy monday. it’ll probably be my last time saying that because death awaits me tomorrow when i face oba 😅🙃
that's how it always goes; you swear you never will watch. then the music gets into your head. you think nothing of it, then one day you find yourself humming or singing the lyrics and can't figure out where they're from until you look it up and realize you've been corrupted.

they'd talked about it a couple of times; maika coming to the states to see thekla now that they'd not exactly put a label to things but acknowledged maybe this love and care for the other extended to more than just friends and former stablemates. (who needed official labels, anyway. she loved thekla, and to maika that's what mattered most. not some silly label. acknowledging the feelings was big enough as it was.) what they hadn't talked about, not in detail at least, was maika coming to the states while she recovered and could be near thekla more than away.
and yet; maika had still booked a one way ticket to florida. she'd packed her duffle bag with her laptop, a bunch of her clothes, the plushie she unashamedly slept with every single night, small comforts of japan she wasn't going to be able to get in florida and knew thekla would enjo for her new place.
she locked up, swung by himeka's new place of work, and after calming her worries she was going to do something dumb, assured her she'd be back...eventually, that japan had nothing for her right now. she could get the same surgery in the states, and in all honesty? she just needed to be near the austrian woman who had seemingly stolen her heart faster than she could blink while she had to deal with the new life of not wrestling.
she caught a ride to the airport, boarded a plane, and found herself back on american soil. she'd vaguely remembered the address thekla had mentioned and caught a rideshare there...trying not to wince at the cost.
duffle bag over her shoulder. she knocked once, then again. she didn't even know if she was home, but she was willing to wait.

Nah, it’s cool. It’s a little refreshing hearing it from an unbiased third party instead of everyone I’m friends with.
Yeah. Need to get surgery. Hurt my elbow a few years back. Young and dumb didn’t listen. Was thinking of a break and then all the stuff happened and was never ending schedule of matches. Now the doctor told me the ligament needs total reconstruction. So…that’s fun.

Isn’t that the goal for everyone, though? To be the face of a company? Granted, I can’t speak for ya’ - but if they trust you enough to run with the ball, the last thing I’d be worried about is what everyone else is doing.
In any case, bein’ a human ain’t so bad. You watch TV or anything? Might be a good time to jump into some shows.
It’s a little different; here there’s usually more than one. There’s an “ace” of course but it wasn’t ever my goal, not so fast at least. Mayu was a good ace. Eimi was never really considered an ace but she was the most well known, her and Mayu, Tam, Utami. I could go on. They were all leaders of factions, so it made sense. Me, I just wanted to wrestle. Be the muscle. Then everyone left and I was fighting being lonely and shouldering something I don’t know if I was really ready for.
I have a list of shows I should catch up on. Usually try to play video games in my downtime but haven’t figured out how to do that essentially one handed. Thinking about going to the states to see some friends.

But at the end of the day, this business is a long game - so if you want to be around for a long time, you gotta listen to what your body needs and doesn’t.

Sort of hard when everyone leaves and you find yourself sort of becoming the face of the company without realizing it until it’s too late. Growing pains are always a blast. But, match is said and done and now…now I figure out how to be a human and not just a wrestler. Terrified, a little excited.
