the last part of the quote isnāt too bad out of context,Ā Ā because that is what he does.Ā Ā if you really look at all his comics,Ā Ā heās very focused onĀ āthe guilty.āĀ Ā but also,Ā Ā consider this quote from batman: legends of the dark knight, issue #0:

the last two sentences are very important,Ā Ā &Ā Ā it is imperative to understand that batmanās reputation has always been āhe beats up the bad guys. he saves the good ones.āĀ Ā itās not one or the other,Ā Ā itās both.Ā Ā you cannot have just oneĀ Ā &Ā Ā still have a decent characterization.Ā Ā iām not completely disagreeing withĀ ābatman was created to punish the guilty,āĀ Ā however i think within the context of titansĀ Ā (Ā Ā where bruce is very..Ā Ā obvious about his knack for murderĀ Ā ),Ā Ā itās just not doing the character any justice.Ā Ā all this is for edge factor,Ā Ā &Ā Ā i quite frankly donāt understand the appeal.

i cannot stress this enough:Ā Ā bruce has always preachedĀ Ā &Ā Ā taught the importance of investigation,Ā Ā of deduction,Ā Ā of planning before you ever even take another step forward.Ā Ā he is very thorough in his methods,Ā Ā even before he ever throws a punch.Ā Ā thatās what heās always taught any of the vigilantes that he took under his wing.Ā Ā of course,Ā Ā thatās not to say that batman isnāt violent.Ā Ā iām just saying that itās not what he taught dick,Ā Ā jason,Ā Ā tim,Ā Ā barbara,Ā Ā etc.Ā Ā in titans,Ā Ā donna tells dick that batman is just someone who reaches for violence above allĀ Ā &Ā Ā thatās what he taught dick as he grew upāĀ Ā Ā i donāt know why they went for this type of characterization when itās absolutely flat in my opinion.Ā Ā make batman the bad guy all you want,Ā Ā half the time he IS the antagonist to certain people/in certain situations,Ā Ā but at least do it right.
as an addition,Ā Ā Ā please remember that bruce is a very tenderĀ Ā &Ā Ā caring man.Ā Ā i cannot stress this enough.Ā Ā he took an active interest in all of his menteesā personal lives,Ā Ā he cared about their school life,Ā Ā he cared about their mental health.Ā Ā one could argue that he didnāt care enough because he put kids in danger,Ā Ā &Ā Ā thatās a valid argument.Ā Ā there is no blackĀ Ā &Ā Ā white to batman,Ā Ā there never will be.Ā Ā itās doing no favors for his character to try to force him into a strict label.Ā Ā i think itās much more interesting to discuss his behaviorĀ Ā &Ā actions actively,Ā Ā even embrace the fact that he is such a gray character at times,Ā Ā but thatās just my opinion.
