It does sadden me to see so many hobbyists talking about how they feel they have no place to go now that DOA is shutting down. The users were ALWAYS the best part of the site, and they're provided a huge amount of helpful information over the years.

But I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner. Frankly, the extremely rigid (but somehow also arbitrary?) rules of the site, combined with nonexistent transparency and communication regarding lifetime bans, combined with one of the only remaining mods being famously unpleasant and vindictive, combined with any new artists/companies being unreasonably difficult to "get approved" (you basically need to "prove their innocence", especially if they happen to be Chinese) for discussion... it all combines into a website that was destined to get smaller and smaller until it eventually shriveled up and died.

There's definitely still a space for forums in this hobby, but at least in my opinion DOA was barely even filling that niche. It was so obsessively elitist that it kicked everyone out and scared away almost everyone else. Can we really be surprised that it's dying?

#Before you ask no I've never been banned from DOA and I've been posting there for 8 years #Frankly I think the fact that I was a frequent contributor is what left me so jaded #To stay alive in an evolving hobby space a forum needs to adapt. DOA was DETERMINED not to adapt or compromise or evolve #Therefore it was left in the dust. Maybe the next BJD forum will learn from DOA's mistakes 🤷‍♀️

Monster High is such a weird franchise because the original G1 dolls/media gave a lot of lip service to the idea of "being yourself" and "Be freaky and weird and unique" but the dolls/character designs themselves were like "But not too freaky though :) Every main character still needs to rigidly fit into strict beauty & gender norms"

So now we got grown ass Monster High G1 purists who rabidly hate fat people (actually lbr just normal sized people) and gnc women and act like they're being personally attacked when a children's doll isn't "serving enough cunt" (aka appealing to the fashion tastes of entitled adult men instead of little girls (the intended demographic))

I will never go back to any type of watercolor pencils besides Derwent Inktense for faceups, they're such a step up from the other watercolor pencils I was using it's not even funny

#Idk I'm not a watercolor pencil expert but the core seems like. Harder? Than other watercolor pencils I've had #They stay sharper for longer and the tips don't keep falling off and needing to be re-sharpened (and then wiggling and falling off again)#And all without sacrificing pigment. They're just good idk #Also Panpastels. ABSOLUTELY never touching a stick soft pastel ever again #I've been using the same red panpastel for like 5 years and I'm convinced I will die before I'm able to use the whole thing
