Cold Process vs. Melt & Pour: What’s the Difference in Handmade Soap?

If you love natural skincare and unique, handcrafted gifts, you’re in the right place! At Creek Side Soaps and Crafts LLC, I handmake every soap bar, lotion bar, and craft item with care, using high-quality ingredients and a whole lot of love.

So what’s the difference between Cold Process and Melt & Pour soap?

Cold process soap is made from scratch using oils like olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and avocado oil. This method takes time and patience—each bar cures for weeks—but the result is a long-lasting, skin-loving soap packed with natural goodness.

Melt & pour soap starts with a pre-made base (mine are made with mango butter, cocoa butter, and shea butter), which I melt down, customize with color, scent, and style, and pour into molds. It’s great for beautiful designs and quick batches, but still gentle on skin.

Scented with essential or fragrance oils, my soaps look as good as they feel. I also offer moisturizing lotion bars (made with olive oil, beeswax, and shea butter) that are perfect for dry hands and feet.
