/ TERROR.

15.   a  howling  bonfire  where  shadows  betray  you.

SILENCE  PRECEDES  THE  VIOLENCE          of  a  crackling  fire,   the  remnants  of  a  clearing  now  kindled  with  the  russet  light  of  flames     /     THE  RE - ANIMATION  OF  SOMETHING  ONCE  IMMOBILE.          she  is  propped  askew  like  a  mannequin,   each  limb  disjointed  and  lolling,   held  up  not  by  the  stuttery  support  of  her  own  legs  but  by  an  ominous  force     —     what  is  the  opposite  of  gravity,   of  logic  and  reason   ?

she  awakens  as  if  from  comatose  slumber,   first  one  shoulder  drawing  upward     (     the  effort  in  the  motion  is  obvious,   A  DOLL  WITH  RUSTY  HINGES     )     then  the  next.          her  fingernails  click  one  at  a  time  upon  the  syringe  she  is  holding,   testing  their  hold  once  more,   lifeless  digits  with  no  sensation,   only  a  mechanic  memory.          the  nurse  has  no  mouth,   but  she  breathes.

it  hitches  in  a  pallid  throat,   an  effeminate  sigh  from  hollow  and  frayed  lungs,   wistful  and  frantic  as  a  frenzied  pant.          her  chest  expands  melodramatic  with  the  gesture,   artificially  timed  with  the  tremulous  steps  she  begins  to  take  forward.

LEFT  FOOT - BREATHE  IN - RIGHT  FOOT - BREATHE  OUT.

none  of  her  joints  work  as  they  should,   a  pathetic  imitation  of  humanity’s  gait,   ankles  inward,   knees  bent,   heels  stumping  her  already  intermittent  footsteps.          all  the  while,   as  her  pace  quickens,   so  does  that  panicked  respiration     (     asthma     )     in  turn,   an  excited  and  terrified  in - out - left - right - in - in - in - there’s - no - air - you - can’t - breathe - it’s - the - asthma - eddie - your - inhaler - the - asthma - in - your - left - delicate - right - lungs - in - OUT !

the  syringe  glints  in  the  looming  firelight,   arm  raised  and  ready  to  plunge.

i have multiple parts to this!

i’ll word it better later in a more in depth post bc it kinda links back to my ideas on xenomorph a as a species but in summary :

the alien had gone into Defense Mode (tm) so to speak. xenomorphs’ primary objective, similarly to the mind flayer, is to survive. when ripley engages the nostromo’s shutdown, all the alarms and lights start going crazy, right? the xenomorph recognises this as dangerous conditions not to mention something it’s not used to, and so actually chooses to stay hidden.

it hides in that small alcove in the shuttle and falls into a kind of hibernation state, blind to thermal and motion indicators (i believe the eggs were also originally in this state and had actually been dormant for a very long time) ; i also think it was preparing to shed for a final moult, as i believe xenomorph’s lifespans are extremely rapid and short, like most insects. they don’t live long, which is why they’re so eager to populate. of course when ripley gassed the xenomorph it cuts this process short before it can begin and the goal becomes different.

idk if i’m bein ? dumb DKSKSKSKS do u mean like lilo and stitch type companion bc ... most of them are nowhere near friendly enough to do that like they’re all extremely hostile

HIEMAL  CRISP  OF  WINTER’S  BREAK,          daring  to  roam  the  outskirts  of  lumbering  woods’  edge.          the  seam  of  the  trees  looms     :     each  tree  like  a  limb,   each  desiccated  and  sallow  grey  limb  of  the  wendigo  like  a  tree  in  the  forest.          IT  IS  HIDDEN.          half  an  elk  remains  littered  beneath  it,   a  discarded  corpse  in  favour  of  the  new  heat  signature  traipsing  on  its  terrain.          there  belies  no  argument     :     HUMAN  FLESH  TASTES  SWEETEST.

its  stalk  is  perturbingly  silent,   a  wind  wraith  harnessing  the  chitter  of  the  birds,   the  crunch  of  the  leaves  underfoot  the  man’s  gait.          dead  fish  eyes,   glazed  over  but  glowing  with  AN  UNYIELDING  HUNGER  scope  their  prey  like  avid  camera  lenses,   unblinking  shutters.

a  wintry  chill  down  the  back  of  your  spine     :     that  unmistakable  sensation  of  being  watched.

A  HEAVING  MIRE  OF  VISCERAL  REMAINS,          trembling  like  an  unsavoury  jelly  as  the  boy  draws  closer.          it  gleams  in  the  last  of  the  sun’s  blistering  rays,   a  wet  puddle - like  glistening  of  guts  biding  its  time  by  the  stream.          THIS  IS  THEIR  RETREAT.          the  mind  flayer  will  collect  them  all  as  thralls  to  its  rebuilding,   churn  them  into  a  decomposing  mush  of  entrails.          a  crimson  storm  looms  on  the  horizon,   clouds  brewing  as  it  lurks  for  its  oncoming  prey  by  the  water.
