When I am away from home, I think about the places where I locate my ‘self.’ Things that are carried with me, that are perhaps less visible in certain contexts but always present, shift and reveal themselves to me in different formations, floating to the forefront of my consciousness in ways that jostle for my attention. Usually they are reminders that I am not from the place where I happen to be in that moment. I am there but not of there. I am not home.
