Unfortunately I had trouble finishing this one as I became overwealmed with work. In hindsight I should have started earlier in the term.

Looking back at the piece, there are a few things I would change. First being the background. I’d add more interest to it by putting a small town or city in the distance in the lower right, Then have the light rays coming from that. The light rays were a bit of an impulse thing, I wanted to add some interest to the background instead of it just being black or white.

I’d add more contrast to the foreground of the piece, I chose not to in this because I didn’t want it to be too blown out or have to much contrast. In future pieces, I would look at more references and lighting examples.

Taking my previous drawing feedback into account, I added a lot more detail and contrast to this final piece. I also wanted to do something that would bring emotion to the viewer, and show the emotion of the time period. Having thousands of men and woman without there families, not knowing if they would come home.

 Progression Update #1

I have come up with a few ideas that I want to do for my final piece for Traditional Art. I want to incorporate everything I’ve learnt from the class over the previous months. Including the recent life drawing classes.

Ideas:- 

1. A girl as the center piece posing in a dramatic way against a tree 2. A World War 2 Soldier walking through the forests of The Rhine, or Normandy Beach.

3. A cliff side setting with a figure at the edge, Controlling the force of the wind.

Traditional Art GAT110 - Art and Design Portfolio

These are my final photos for my Art and Design portfolio for GAT110

WIP Rough Thumbnail Sketches.

It is expected that I am to create 2 pages of thumbnails for a final creative piece as part of my Traditional Art project. I have been using many forms of media to spawn inspiration to develop ideas such as TV Shows, images, games, and even music. Some of my favourite inspirations to form ideas from are Game of Thrones, The Elder Scrolls series, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, World of Warcraft along with music from Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, Nicholas Hooper and Alexandre Desplat.

Assessing my weaknesses, I have come up with a small list of what I need to improve on. Truth is, before this, I barely did traditional art or just draw with a pencil in general. I’ve purely learnt everything digitally, so this is a challenge for me.

So here’s my list of things I need to work on to push myself forward.

One of my tasks for traditional art class is to do 2x A3 Tonal Value studies.

For this, I have to set up a scene of objects and lighting and recreate that scene on paper. I have approached this by doing 2 scenes with different themes, One around the kitchen, and another around gaming.

For my kitchen scene, I have included a bottle of cooking oil, a container, a mug and 2 eggs. I have laid each object on a white sheet for additional values in the creases of the fabric. This will give me a challenge as I haven’t drawn much fabric before.
