I discovered BØRNS one day before my 25th birthday, while shopping for underwear at MYER. I could hear this gorgeous, soaring chorus over the radio—classical yet contemporary; in turns tragic and triumphant. It was one of the best pop hooks I’d heard in the past decade. Shazam informed me that the song was ‘Faded Heart’. Tonight I saw the artist himself serenade an adoring audience. I say that like I wasn’t part of the audience, but I was. There was swaying and swooning. It was more energy than Tuesday night can handle. The moral of the story is to keep your ears open when shopping for underwear. It could be the start of a beautiful journey. (at The Metro Theatre)

Holed up in one of my favourite Sydney cafes on a miserable Sunday afternoon, reading a book and forgetting what the time is. One of the staff just brought my coffee upstairs to an intensely focused room of people on their laptops and called out “Flat white???”, followed by a hushed, “Sorry to break the hectic silence in here.” (at Ampersand Cafe & Bookstore, Paddington)
