This is a series of convos I've had with real people and my thoughts after. In other words, just me overthinking my overthinking.
I had a conversation recently with someone I've met once years ago (and was reintroduced by a different friend group), so basically strangers. We're both artists who create traditional artworks (paintings, sculptures, etc.).
I stopped actively pursuing the fine art field on 2020 because I was in need of a stable income so I diverted my route to advertising (even though I dislike it so much). On the other hand, she's been working on the fine art field for about 10 years.
She's inviting me to join her art group which I'm happy to accept. But I couldn't get what she said out of my head. She said "Art buyers and collectors only buy works from known artists. If you're not that known in the field, it's almost impossible to sell your art".
Which was not entirely false, but it's not at all inviting especially when you're asking someone to join your art group lol
Although, I am no stranger to that reality. I know well how hard it is to thrive in the fine art field in our country and how toxic some community are to newcomers.
But we as artists create and infuse a part of ourselves to whatever we create. Just because our works are not sold as well as a known artists' works are doesn't mean that we're worthless, it may be that the world is so big we have not yet met the people who connects with us best.
The best thing about creating is that in everything you make is uniquely you, it reflects you.
