"The most barbaric and backwards airport I have ever crossed. Just a summary of my longest nightmare ever: For three days I have been detained and denied boarding my flight by the securities at the Praia international Airport because I refused to comply and compromise with their perverse transphobic curiosity to strip -search me without any explanations. Consequently I lost 3 flight for my next trips and other businesses. However, after three days the National Police Commander of Cabo Verde issued a letter authorising my passage without any further embarrassment, humiliation and abuse. On the contrary, the worse unfolded at the boarding gate the night of my final departure after being escorted by Mindelact delegates and a lawyer through the securities. I was pulled back from the boarding gate few minutes after my escorts had left, by same securities that were spoken to earlier. They violated the order from the prime minister and the national police commander, strip me naked searching even my anus and genitalia for drugs and weapons. I really felt being raped and abused. I knew it had nothing to do with a suspicion of drugs and weapons even though they claim their search was not based on my gender, race nor any form of identity. I was convinced they were only searching for an [illegal pussy or dick] perhaps something far beyond that. I can never imagine how many people have to go through such humiliation daily because of who they are or because the borders have failed to make provisions for non binaries. I am therefore asking all concern institutions, activists, and groups to take some radical steps to put a stop to this barbaric abuse.
