I came back from my vacation in Atlanta, GA. I went in my bedroom and saw a stack of 7" singles sitting by my record collection. Also my father moved out so like half of his furniture is gone. So basically the house is half empty and I have significantly more 7" singles. It was very weird. But thank you anyway.

David Bowie: Blackstar 2016, ISO Records

First drop. Knowing the back story attached to this piece of art makes the listening experience acutely, eerily poignant. Niall Colgan sent this to me, an act which represents everything VJ stands for. He knew what the vultures were doing with it; he sent it to be archived in The Record Cave instead. I know what the vultures are doing with it, one week later. I broke the seal immediately, there was never any question.

The music, the art. It’s the only thing that matters and I believe that’s the reason all of us feel comfortable pouring out the soundtrack to our souls. Music on vinyl isn’t just a commodity, nor is it just a trend. The copy of Blackstar that’s currently spinning, MY copy. It has a story, filled with love, loss, admiration and sadness. Niall Colgan expressed his grief by sharing why it affected him. My copy of Blackstar has mojo, that essential unquantifiable value that carries value in our hearts. Ebay? Discogs? C'mon now. If that’s how folks are valuating their record collections, they’re doing it wrong. My copy already has a rich history, one which will always be remembered as perhaps the most poignant in VJ history. Thank you, Niall Colgan, I will never forget.
