Question: does anyone know any actually good video essays on dsmp/mcyt?
I was recently watching the Strange Aeons video on mens hockey rpf and I found many aspects of it to be familiar to my own existence in this fandom, and made me realize how much I'd like to see someone cover mcyt fandom in the same fashion.
I haven't watched any of the existing dsmp summaries/video essays bc I fear the idea of an outsider reviewing things in a gawking, "look at this cringe" manner without offering any actual insight (which many of the thumbnails seem to suggest...) so if anyone has any recs I'd love to check them out!
My real hot take that is that while this thumbnail is likely exaggerated clickbait, videos like this can still only exist if you focus exclusively on a handful of the server's most popular members, while ignoring smaller (often still majorly popular!) creators AND
that this kind of focus utterly distorts discussions of the dsmp, as it ignores the ways smaller creators were ignored and unfairly treated for roleplay (and how these kinds of organizational issues being a major factor in the dsmp dissolving) as well as the bigotry leveraged against the more marginalized members of the dsmp, who were overall less popular than their more privleiged counterparts

It sucks that the dream smp was kind of the worst possible form of storytelling being taken on by people with neither the experience nor the skills to execute it anywhere close to effectively because "war-hero turned manic-suicidal revolutionary who went to hell and was then resurrected as a ticking time bomb as a threat to the heroes but instead turned out to be just kind of a pathetic loser" is just. Theres just SOO much sauce there.
