Hey guys! I just got a very nice email from someone in the community and I feel the need to speak up about it. 

The email I got was from a person in the community who is hard of hearing and uses subtitles when they watch my videos. They said that while a lot of the times subtitles help in videos, a lot of times they can take away from the viewing experience because of what the subtitles say. Now before I go on, the subtitles on my videos are not submitted by myself, but by others in the community. For those of you who have submitted (legitimate) subtitles and have taken the time to do so: thank you! That is a huge huge help.

The issue that this person was having though was that a lot of times people put in jokes and other text in the subtitles that aren’t actually things that are happening in the video or things that I am saying. if you’re submitting subtitles please do NOT do this. The subtitles are a feature that is used to help those who are hard of hearing or for people who don’t speak English fluently. By adding in jokes or side comments that don’t actually pertain to the video and whats currently happening it can really mess up the viewing experience for someone who needs those subtitles. If you are adding subtitles please be as accurate as you can to what I’m saying and leave the jokes in the comments.

Again, I really appreciate those of you who take the time to subtitle each video correctly, but for those of you making jokes out of it you’re ruining videos for other people. Hate to put it that bluntly, but really at the end of the day that’s whats happening. I want my videos to be able to enjoyed by everyone and I’m definitely going to monitor the subtitles more carefully from now on.
