1 thing to cover real quick

what is Tokusatsu?

Tokusatsu is a japanese genre of film and TV that utilizes practical effects pretty heavily like pyrotechnics, suits etc...

some famous examples of this are:

Power Rangers/super sentai

Kamen Rider

Ultraman

and probably most famously, GODZILLA

I grew up on this style of media and recently with the popularity of the DCU on the rise, I wanted to take my own crack at the aesthetic, so I began taking notes, consuming media, commissioning artists, working in heroforge etc, all to bring this au to fruition

(honestly, superman didn't really but it's hard to change him a lot while keeping the aspects the same lol)

this isn't exactly a Batman or Superman Au, its the dc universe as a whole! I'm going to try to cover as many corners as I can to fit the aesthetics and lore I do come up with.

If you're worried about a favorite little guy not showing up, don't worry, I will eventually get around to things like the Teen titans, Young justice, terrifics, Omega men, suicide squad, lantern corps etc

just give me time as I am but one man lol

also if you're worried about the AU being limited when it comes to concepts

these are all wildly different properties that all fall under the Toku umbrella, its insane lol, I have a lot to pull from for inspiration

now for the lore?

I don't really have a grand plan for the whole project when it comes to lore, I tried for a bit but it was pretty creatively paralyzing thinking on the scale of an entire universe with characters that I either haven't gotten to yet, or I might not even touch

I can share my steps for finding lore for the characters with Wonder Woman since she's the most recent character I'm working on

find what are the best stories for her(whether it be film, comics, tv, games etc) the list I will use is: the Gail Simone run , Greg Rucka run, Phil Jimenez run, George Perez run, Historia, League of One, Hiketeia, and Absolute Wonder Woman

consume said media(at this stage atm, currently going through Absolute Wonder woman and it's peak)

figure out how to fit the character into toku, this step is easy to slot in wherever but usually it's step 2 or 3.

for Diana I wanted to base her lore partially off of ultraman and his mythos, specifically Ultraman Cosmos as he's one of the few ultras with pacifism as a focal point, while adding in a bit of Kamen Rider Femme for aesthetics and themes

5. get to work

this is still very very much in its infancy and it will only grow from here and I'm very excited to see where it does grow to, if you've been on here long enough you'll know this is absolutely NOT my first time doing an AU but I feel like I finally got the ball rolling with enough traction for it to stay that way
