Just expanded on a note in my ideas doc and wrote a whole Bloodymary comic script😭 well, gotta ride the wave i guess. Lots of Lawlight ideas too but i guess i can at least sketch the Bloodymary one to get it out of my system
Rewatching Iron Lung and I haven't seen anyone bring up that Simon actually has really good emotional regulation strategies. When left alone to navigate the sub he takes the time to look around for what he can do and how. He takes a second to breathe and stay calm when he realizes he has a finite amount of oxygen. Often he takes time to think about things before responding throughout the movie. You see him rub his knife holster for comfort multiple times when he's stressed (and reach for where he usually has it on his lapel in scenes that he's not wearing it). He is actually very equipped to deal with high stress, just not something of this level.
It speaks to how intense the situation is that a character who is proven capable of staying calm under stress also ends up having fits of anger and desperation. Simon is never shown to be violent by nature at all, quite the opposite actually. He apologizes when he harms others. He apologizes to an inanimate object at one point (possibly himself?) after flipping out. Simon is a sweet man that was raised by a death cult and placed in an impossible situation, and he's honestly dealing with it a lot better than a majority of people would.
Truth nuke!! One of my favorite Simon character moments is when the hull breach and bow fire double whammy hits him, and he reaches for the holster around his chest to self-soothe, but it's gone because he took it off due to the heat, which leads him to his first big breaking point. Little things like that...👌🏻
I've written down so many Lawlight ideas in the past 10 hours where would I begin...
I keep thinking about Simon greedily sucking Grace's cock while Grace, who's never even received a blowjob, let alone human contact in like a decade, has his hands brushing through Simon's hair – stringy from sweat or maybe half dried ocean water – almost in disbelief. They're both completely desperate and reverent. They deserve a fucking break. They deserve to allow themselves to melt under each other's hands, their muscles relaxed and laced with ecstasy... They wouldn't wanna be anywhere else in that moment

Sorry to slip back into my role as gatekeeping analyst fandom menace, but please, guys, Simon Iron Lung is not just Markiplier but constantly in a bad mood. In fact, he's more like a wet, really fluffy dog. He's sad and teary eyed but his fur is really fucking heavy so his knees hurt and his neck hurts but everyone just makes him keep walking and walking and walking. If someone – say, a nice, unconditionally helpful blonde guy – took off all the pressure at once and put him in an even marginally better situation, I'm sure he'd be beyond grateful. After all, Simon constantly seeks for connection while in the sub, judges Ava for not even honoring the names of the people she sends down there and even seems to feel genuinely bad for blasting the pieces of shit that keep on sending him back down there with radiation. His whole thing is that he never INTENTIONALLY kills anyone, and yet he's caused the deaths of hundreds, potentially thousands after perchance a freak accident and having a completely valid crashout leading him to hit a button he didn't even know was dangerous to both himself and others.

Maybe she feeds off the religious yearning of the tree's devotees that come down there and she fears the religion fading with the tree's death? I'm unclear on that one. But it's getting good rn so I gotta keep watching. Actively afraid, intrigued and horny. Again. Happy about that.
PS: Love that Mark and Elli's VA have the same metal-screamy throat action. Yk when they both groan in frustration at the end, it becomes really apparent. Pretty cool, if intentional
