About the blog

sure! i'm no expert but i do have some strong opinions on it.
first of all, i tend to harp on christianity a lot with my own irl friends and even my Catholic mother because she's very critical of it as well. but i don't have anything against the Bible or Christianity in general. obviously, it has been used as a weapon for extreme evil, and the institution's lack of accountability and acknowledgement is one of the many reasons I can't involve myself in the institution of the Church itself, because there is a fundamental lack of awareness among many Christians of the sheer harm the Church has done to indigenous people, Black people (ESPECIALLY in America), and queer people, and that's hard to stand coming from people who claim to be a religion about love. when i told my mom about the fact that residential schools were a project created and sponsored by the Catholic Church, she was heartbroken. Many Christians simply don't know.
But I've read the Bible. I know what it says. I know who Jesus was, and I know the kind of person he would be if he were still alive today.
Many non-Christians criticize the Old Testament, especially Leviticus, which, as you probably know, contains a lot of stricter rules. However, I don't think that's entirely fair, especially since many of those rules that queer gentiles often hail as ridiculous, are still regularly and willingly practiced by Jewish people around the world. The Bible is a product of an initial Jewish worldview, so I think it's really important that you're not being anti-semitic in the way you criticize the Bible. The Old Testament in Christianity contains Judaism's Torah- Christianity and Judaism are both abrahamic faiths, so it makes sense that their sacred texts are so closely intertwined.
So my takes on the Bible aren't anything new. I think by itself, there's nothing wrong with it. It has a lot of good stories, and the Bible itself is very oriented in the lane of social justice- the purpose of the Old Testament in Christianity is to contextualize the history behind Jesus and what he would come to this world to do, and from the Bible we learn that the most important aspect of being a Christian is following Jesus's new law of love- love your neighbor as you love yourself. that is the pinnacle of the Bible, and we learn that because it's the main point of the last sermon he ever delivers before his crucifixion. he chooses the most important of his lessons for the most critical time in his life, right before his crucifixion and resurrection, and so the Bible can actually be interpreted as a seminal text on social justice, since Jesus routinely stood up for prostitutes, disabled people, women, and impoverished people.
The Bible can be wonderful. Obviously, it is manipulated in horrible ways, but I think fundamentally, it is good and important, and it's important to respect its modern importance to many Jewish people as well!
