About the total absence of Gwyn in any marketing, it simply isn't enough for them to go: sjm is keeping it a surprise.
Because that raises the obvious question: what is the reason to keep the next FMC a surprise? What is the reason to mislead readers by nudging them to further expect Elain, only to disappoint those expectations. There has to be a coherent and rational reason to do this unprecedented marketing strategy for such an anticipated release. It doesn't do to just go: they're keeping the fmc a surprise. Because WHY? Also obviously this isn't directed at you, I know you obviously get it and were just restating their claims.
Why set readers up to expect Elain, which all merch and marketing are doing now, only to have mislead them for the surprise fmc of Gwyn? When readers are left wondering about Elain's mating bond, and this is what is brought up in interviews. When the Archerons and the bat boys are the focus of all merch. Why mislead like this and then announce Gwyn as the fmc with not only no marketing whatsoever, but marketing in a totally different direction. Why, why, why? Literally why? That will simply lead to disappointed readers, even among those that don't have animosity towards Gwyn at all. Simply because it was misleading. It made readers spend money on something they were indirectly lied to about. It would be unhinged and unethical marketing.
Does this not even bother them? Do they even think? They have no why to their strange "explanations" for why the next fmc is abscent form marketing, merch, interviews.
The true explanation is simply: Elain is next. Anything else was never even on the table, since sjm pitched the sisters' books all those years ago. The books set up Elain to be next. Sjm has confirmed Elain's book long ago. And the marketing, merch, etc, are simply clearly in alignment with this. There is no misleading marketing, no surprise curve ball fmc, no unhinged marketing strategy. It is all straight forwardly normal and this fandom is just crazy. That's the what and the why.

I just don’t understand this complete distrust in Sjm and BB from the other side. Since we’re focusing on marketing, its mainly BB. Why tf would they care about manipulating their target audience? I don’t understand. This whole “they’re pushing Elain just to make people *think* elriel will happen but they’ll suprise us with Gwynriel!” Why do you believe a company is genuinely caring that much lmfao.
All the merch and marketing just proves what elriels have been saying: Elain is part of the core 6 and part of the NC/IC. All the marketing from countless articles to CHD all hint at Elain being next- this isn’t a grand trick. They do not care to do that.
With a staggering 4 months left, they aren’t going to push people down the wrong path. Its that simple. Id say they’re making it obvious without blatantly coming out and saying (considering there hasn’t been a good chance for them to reveal more info especially since with the apparent BB reconstruction) who and what the next book is about.
The thing is: If Gwyn was part of the next book, they could have focused on the valkryies but nope. Its the 3 sisters x 3 brothers agenda being constantly pushed because at the end of the day- the spinoffs are there to prioritise those 6 then the other characters.
The fact Gwyn isn’t mentioned, especially not by Maas on CHD, speaks volumes. She doesn’t play a big role in the next books.
