Genuine question

In most Dracula book fanart, Mina is represented as black. And of course I’m not a fucking fascist idiot and this is no problem to me plus I think it looks cool, but I’ve been genuinely wondering if I missed something in the book ? Or is there just a general reason why she is represented like that in art ?

Seeing discourse on YouTube about “if it’s old media it doesn’t need a spoiler warning bc you should know it all anyway after __ amount of time” and “suck it up it’s just spoilers it won’t ruin the experience” and it just pisses me off so much for some reason

It is so easy to just respect people who are new to this thing you love. You don’t even have to avoid talking about spoilers just give a warning like any other cw you put in, especially with media where knowing the end very drastically changes your experience ingesting the story. You’re taking away someone’s opportunity to EVER experience this story the intended way. Why

Also just because media is old doesn’t mean people know what’s gonna happen. Nobody can be expected to know the plot of every piece of old media to ever exist. Maybe this book is 100 years old maybe this game is 20 years old but if I’m new to the horror genre I have never been in spaces where I know anything about this stuff just let people experience things for the first time if they want to, and if your space isn’t going to give them that experience give them a warning to go elsewhere it’s so easy. Everyone deserves the opportunity to experience something naturally for the first time

#having feelings rn #this is here bc I’ve seen this argument for Dracula too many times #also I just recently played silent hill 2 for the first time and the slow buildup to the twist is so emotionally devastating #and impacts the game experience so significantly #I can’t imagine someone just never getting that gut punch and then getting to go through later to find all the foreshadowing #like they just forever have the intended emotional impact of the game taken away #and for a lot of people that puts them off the media for good because it’s a worse experience to know the whole plot off the bat #youve just driven someone away from something you love bc you couldn’t give them a warning #it just feels like a weirdly overly defended form of gatekeeping to me #dracula #silent hill 2 #sorry for the rant #hope everyone is getting hype for next Dracula season!#it’s coming up!
