Pro-tip: This will be easier to follow if you’re reading/ interacting with this on a laptop since there will be timestamps in the episode for you to reference directly. 

A Few Things to Know:

This one’s pretty hardcore so we’re actually analyzing subtitles among other things, so whenever I use “Bee” in this meta, I am talking ONLY about the phonetic pronunciation of “Bii” or “Bi”. Consequently, whenever I use “Bye” I am ONLY talking about the phonetic pronunciation of “Bi” as in “Bisexual”. Hopefully this clears up any confusion for you.

Anyway…

I’m here to once again talk about “The Feud” cause I can and it’s fun and most importantly, I believe I noticed something new. So I’m following the example of @astrolatte and doing a rewatch of the entire series before the release of Season 8. So tonight I was watching Season 4’s  “The Voltron Show”, when I noticed something interesting. I was paying attention the subtitles whenever Bii-Boh-Bi spoke because I remembered in “The Feud” how when he spoke, the subtitles mostly appeared in the sequence of “Bii” in correlation with the pronunciation “Bee”. However in “The Voltron Show”, whenever Bii-Boh-Bi speaks and says “Bee”, the default subtitles are “Bi”. In other words, in “The Voltron Show” the only time we see the “Bii” sequence of Bii-Boh-Bi is when they (the paladins) refer to him by name.

For Example:

(Bii-Boh-Bi speaking in “The Voltron Show”; the subtitles ONLY read as “Bi” in this episode whenever Bii-Boh-Bi speaks and says “Bee”). 

(The Paladins (Pidge) referring to Bii-Boh-Bi by name. This is the ONLY time we see the “Bii” sequence used in the subtitles in this episode, but again both “Bii” and “Bi” are pronounced as “Bee”).

Moving on …

So I was watching this and I was like ‘well that’s kinda odd, but whatever’. But then I remembered something. It occurred to me that during the “Fill-in-the-Blank” segment in “The Feud”, Bob kept leaning in to Bii-Boh-Bi and saying “You can’t say the word”. Then it clicked. Whenever Bii-Boh-Bi speaks during this segment with Lance, the subtitles are a combination of both the “Bii” and “Bi” sequence. However, most of the time, the sequence used when the pronunciation is “Bee” is “Bii”.

To reiterate, there seems to be somewhat of a contrast here as far as the sequence of the “Bee” pronunciation in “The Voltron Show” vs. “The Feud”. In “The Voltron Show”, the default sequence when Bii-Boh-Bi speaks in the subtitles is “Bi” but is ALWAYS pronounced as “Bee”. But in “The Feud”, the sequence used the most for the “Bee” pronunciation is the “Bii” sequence, a sequence they’ve ONLY used in the past when referring to Bii-Boh-Bi by name.

I should mention that as far as referring to Bii-Boh-Bi by name, both “The Voltron Show” and “The Feud” use the “Bii” sequence to refer to Bii-Boh-Bi, the only difference is that in “The Feud” the “Bii” sequence is used outside of Bii-Boh-Bi’s name.
