PARTICIPATING GALLERY:
Casino Artspace is a Hamilton based community of makers and artists founded in January 2015. Our collaborative community began with 10 members and features 16 members currently. Casino is a 5000 square foot warehouse that is host to shared manufacturing facilities, individual studio space, a professional meeting area, project spaces, photo documentation space, and a curated gallery. Casino members maintain individual practices while working on collaborative projects and events.
Since our inception we have been an active part of the Hamilton community participating in events at Supercrawl, The Cotton Factory, Music festivals and local venues and galleries. We have also been invited to participate in events beyond the city at such locations as the Toronto waterfront, and the AGO. In addition, Casino presents in house gallery shows on a generally monthly basis. Our programming has also included workshops, video shoots, art talks, screenings, live music, and other experimental events.
Our mandate is to cultivate an exciting, supportive community of artists, engaging with our community and helping to further one another’s independent practices within a multifaceted, opportunity rich space.

PARTICIPATING ARTIST PROFILE #13
Laine Groeneweg is Hamilton based printmaker. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in a number of private and public collections. He is constantly drawing from a number of influences, but narrative is certainly a common thread that runs through all of Laine’s work. Technique and technical approach also plays an important factor in the kinds of image that he creates. Using a particular method of printmaking has opened up new and exciting possibilities for different kinds of image making. In his most recent work, Laine has been playing with form and space to create simple representations & narratives.
Laine received his BFA from York University in 2004 and subsequently trained at Fondazione Il Bisonte Per Lo Studio Dell’Arte Grafica in Florence, Italy for printmaking specialization. He is the founder of Smokestack Studio and is the studio technician at Centre[3] for Print and Media Arts.
