In general I think a lot of people default to having women be more capable or at least self respecting than their male counterparts as a halfhearted way to seem more feminist, but overall it can go in the opposite direction by affirming that female characters should be held to higher standards if they want the audience to like/respect them. (ie he’s morally grey, complex and tormented and she’s a selfish bitch)
