Ryland grace is an extinction avatar a lonely avatar or a vast avatar and I can't quite tell which.
Simon? (I haven't watched iron lung I don't deal with horror or mcd very well) Is flesh/extinction or slaughter/extinction from my very limited knowledge of what happens (blood sea? Eels? He loses an arm and has a very very bad time?)
Rocky is just a guy. No avatar for rocky. He definitely is marked by the lonely +vast tho
Adrian gives lonely vibes tho I've technically never met them.
Eva stratt is the eye? Maybe? Maybe the end?
Carl is the best. No clue what entity tho.
I don't think I can name any more charecters lol, does the astrophage count cause that's obv exctintion with a touch of corruption.
@corruption-connoisseur
I've been summoned. If I may add my thoughts (which should probably be its own post but ill just barnacle onto this one if you don't mind)
Iron lung as a movie hits all 15 fears, but Simon to me is very Hunt. He's being hunted by Weird Things In A Blood Ocean, he has been left behind and scorned from his pack/the eden cult while being given a death mission from another. Teeth run up along his face like a snarling wolf. He just wants to live, but just getting to live was never an option for The Butcher. (And making him hunt means he pairs nicely with Grace's fox motif)
I'm not as PHM pilled as I am iron lunged, but Grace is one Lonely mofo. Alone in space, alone on earth, and while content by his own standards everyone else thinks its pathetic that he has nothing to show for.
The interesting thing is that neither medium is quite extinction. Extinction in tma is distinctly man-made destruction (usually technological) of all life on earth, not just world ending. We don't know why the quiet rapture happened, and the astrophage is just doing its thing. I definitely see what you mean and extinction feels like it should fit, but these colors hate differently... /ref
Iron lung/phm/bloody mary have tma fans in quite the chokehold... or at least me. We love putting the sad men into the scary boxes, but I think it goes deeper than that. There's many parallels you can draw between all three medias, but I think Sacrifice is what really draws us together. 3 men chosen to be sacrifices, 3 men realizing its worth it by the end. "It's bigger than me"/"someone to be brave for"/"one way or another. Together." And in choosing this sacrifice, they go against their Fear. Simon living and dying so that others may survive, Grace finding a home and people who care, and Jon going into the unknown, scorning the eye and embracing uncertainty. At the end they beat their Fear and get to Be for themselves. And I think that's nifty.
Yeah this got out of hand. I'll go back to my corner with my worms. Thanks for giving me the motivation to finally write this stuff down and happy fearing!
