This Book is a Planetarium...and other extraordinary pop-up contraptions

I'm excited for This Book is a Planetarium coming out in October. I love that it will support explorations of math, time, light, sound, science, art, design, and making. I also love that everything is made of paper, which is a relatively accessible medium.

Take This Hammer: Art + Media Activism From the Bay Area was an exhibit curated by Christian L. Frock at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts from March 11-August 14 2016. The Curator Statement explains that this exhibit "reflects on the Bay Area’s unique legacy as a center for social justice movements and considers the ways in which the tools of visual art and performance are amplified via the internet by artists, technologists and organizers to leverage global public dialog." Christian L. Frock included Bay Area change makers whose work is "aimed at impacting important social issues, including racial justice, wealth disparity, gentrification, displacement, police brutality, the prison industrial complex, immigration, gun violence, war, and the environment."

Three-part Revisionist History Mini-Series

According to its website, Revisionist History is a podcast from Malcolm Gladwell and Panoply Media that "will go back and reinterpret something from the past: an event, a person, an idea. Something overlooked. Something misunderstood."

This three-part Revisionist History Mini-Series examines how well America is making use of its human potential, opening up college to poor kids, and educational philanthropy.

Malcolm Gladwell is a great story teller and each podcast is illuminating. The statistics that he cites and features on the webpage for each episode are powerful and great resources that I can use with my students as inspiration for their Superhero Projects and/or for our weekly Daily Spark about social justice/equity.
