a stranger in a slave-trading auction house watching from the nosebleeds as a way of watching the chaos unfold but keeping a clear distance from the actual action and sizing up everyone who walks through the entrance of the hall with a shit eating smirk and the eyebags of a man who hasn't slept in a week? who is this man and why do i want him to pin me down/do i want to pin him down? & then because luffy is luffy he just naturally serves as the catalyst for which most ships are born & bred, because people see themselves through the protagonist or because of the sun/night dichotomy that can be derived from lawlu or whatever right? & then sabondy happens and they all fuck off and dont even think about each other for like 2 whole arcs

& just as powerfully law fucks around back to luffy for all of like a week & during that whole fucking duration luffy is so out of commission that even if he was awake he'd probably have so little recollection of law that it doesn't matter anyways. & you can speculate all the canon possible reasons law saved luffy; the D clan is, canonically, few & far between & he felt a type of kinship based on that alone to luffy - law thought luffy would be incredibly useful in his revenge plot against doffy & made a concerted effort to make additional contingency plans with the expectation that luffy would eventually be expendable - law is a doctor who was raised by doctors who has a moral code to save lives if he's able (x to doubt, but idr if law's sidestories actually have him going out of his way to save people).

fuck all of that though, right? cos at the end of the day, all the way until the end of dressrosa (at lest from my perspective) the lawlu dynamic was that of Damsel in Distress & "Knight." there's not a whole lot you can do to convince me that law up until the end of dressrosa wasn't a damsel in distress, because of his relationship with doffy & his absolute willingness to march to his own death. luffy was the one who said "nah, you're my friend now, and i already said i won't let another friend of mine die ever, so fuck you >:^)" like the most unwilling damsel
