With a raise of her eyebrow, Raelynn took a sip of her drink and took in Sam’s statement. Sure, she’d just met the guy, but the reason he’d caught her attention in the first place was that fucking Kevin Malone impression. Plus, didn’t he say he did stand-up? He had to know he was funny, right? “What, why?” Rae asked, “You literally made whiskey come out of my nose, what - twenty...thirty hours ago-” Jesus, had they really been hanging out for that long, talking all this time? It was rare that she didn’t just instantly fall into bed with someone, let alone someone this gorgeous. “Well, you are funny, and your face isn’t half bad either, Sammy.”

Seeing Marley’s own smile probably shouldn’t have brought her so much joy. The fact that someone could be so happy at the fact that she loved them was a new feeling. Typically when she fell in love it was all consuming, but it was never something to be overly joyous about. Perhaps it wasn’t love that she had felt at all but devotion instead. Devotion to who she was with and duty to a relationship that eventually went nowhere. Now with Marley, she could see how their relationship had grown, how there was trust, how there wasn’t just devotion, how there was actual trust and compassion. 

“You didn’t think you were allowed to love me?” Her eyes still soft as she tried to memorize Marley’s smile. That same smile she hid from others was now a smile she wanted reserved just for her. “I’ve loved you for a long time too.” Moving in she pressed a quick kiss to Marley’s lips. “Just so you know, you’re allowed to feel whatever you want to feel.” Maddy meant what she said. Whatever Marley felt whether that was love, or hate, passion or disdain it was fine for her to feel however she wanted and it was okay for the two of them to work things out if there were negative emotions. There were times when Maddy could be toxic or when she wasn’t her best, but she hoped that no matter what, that Marley would be able to still love her despite all the tiny disagreements. 

Had Maddy admitted that she loved Marley without even knowing it? Was she talking about the hope for love or the search for love or was she finally admitting to herself that she had fallen for a girl without even knowing what that was supposed to be like. Her whole life she had thought that she was supposed to be with a guy. She was supposed to continue on living her life the way it was in every fairy tale. Then again she had never liked fairy tales. She found them to be unrealistic and one-dimensional. She wasn’t the perfect person and neither was Marley, but no matter what the two of them continued on trying to be better for one another. “I didn’t really say that,” she began. “But…. so what if I did? Would you want to hear it from me or someone else besides your mom?” The conversation had stayed in its heavy nature. Moving her hands to Marley’s hips Maddy kept her in place. “I meant it, but you don’t have to like say it back or anything.” That might have seemed like the typical thing to say but Maddy was serious. She had been with people who told her that they loved her before and didn’t mean it. The last thing she needed was another repeat of someone just saying something she wanted to hear or what they thought was right. “We don’t have to make it a thing.” 

Jake could feel his heart swell for a moment when he heard that sweet voice of hers tell him that she still loved him. Hearing her say that they couldn’t be friends caused his stomach to knot up. “It’s good to know that you still love me,” he said, brown orbs looking anywhere but at Marley. “Do you mean that in a good way or a bad way? Like we can possibly be together again,” he stated, pausing, looking into her eyes. “Which I would apologize every single day and make it up to you in any way I could.” He looked away again, afraid of her answer to his question. “Or go back to what we have been doing and just speak in Glee club and whatever classes we have together.”
