*Kendo looked at Corascana and frowned slightly to himself. He had been trying to draw a fair conclusion, but it had become remarkably clear that she was not a construct of the storm. No, she was a normal person, possessed by the Storm's will... And the will of the Storm King.*
*He could see it in little things. Her eyes were straining, the lids twitching. Her hands were unconsciously flexing, like they were trying to escape. And it had happened shortly after she had seen Haylee, someone clearly important to her master.*
*That meant she was, on some level, fighting the Storm King's control. That she had her own will, fighting back, wanting to live. He had hunted demons for a living, and been forced to mercy kill many possessed humans. This... this was no different.*
*And yet... Charlotte's case had shown him there was another way. He was not nearly strong enough to fight the Storm King... and he doubted that he knew anyone with enough power to exorcise him from Corascana. But he didn't have to kill her to save her, either. If he could find that thread of humanity, and tug it just enough, her true spirit could recognize the lifeline and ride it back to the surface again.*
*But to overtake the body of a normal human and destroy their soul like this, the Storm King had to be evil. Full stop. Beings of that power didn't harm to that extent purposefully if they were good. But Haylee clearly cared about him, and she was his friend. He could not voice any of this now. But maybe she would be able to be a voice of reason for her father whenever he found a way to help Corascana return to the surface of her mind...*
*But he let none of that show in his face. It only came through his eyes, so he closed them and grinned broadly.*
You should certainly see if you are able to meet with your father again! It sounds like he really does care for you.
*Now for a little trick he had found to ward off possession...*
By the way, Corascana... how does that hot chocolate taste? I can assure you that it is very nice and soothing!
*Chocolate... it had many uses, both physical and mystical. Charlotte had told him once that it was an aphrodisiac, which he hadn't understood until he had read that book mother had provided for him. But it also had potent affects on the brain, specifically in soothing it. Most supernatural beings were also unaware that it dulled the claws of possession slightly. They would not notice, but their victim's mind certainly did.*
*The old tales told him that early demonic possession could be averted completely if sweet chocolate was consumed immediately, and he had seen it work a few times. It could do nothing to remove advanced possession... but it could ease the mental pain.*
*And the rules of politeness, especially in front of royalty, almost guaranteed that Corascana had to drink at least a little bit.*
