A faint smile flickered over his features at the praise. There was a swell of pride that came with his determination being recognized, something heâd missed out on for quite a while. During his time at the garrison he earned plenty of compliments, but there was always a challenge in the way they were given. He was GOOD, but he could be BETTER.
âAnd then Shiro was GONE, Keithâs temper - and by effect his focus - just worsened, and after punching an instructor square in the face, shrieking some choice dialogue as he did, he was booted out. Out in the desert, he was lost. Heâd needed a PURPOSE - in the garrison it had been to reach his brotherâs level, then it became finding out what really happened to his brother (he refused to believe it was a pilot error, not when he knew Shiroâs skill), and then heâd lost everything heâd worked so hard for, just because he couldnât take what they were telling him.
BUT NOW he has purpose again. Defending the universe, and it was a goal of utmost importance. Heâdgive it his all - Coran already seemed happy enough with their status, considering the short while theyâve been doing it, but Keith would continue pushing himself to improve.
It was just nice to have an objective again.
âSoâVoltron hasnât been around much longer than you?â He queried with an inquisitive tilt of his head. âI figuredâŚâ he trailed off, picking up a new start a tick later; âHow long IS the average Altean lifespan, anyway?â
Oh. It hadnât occurred to him that the Paladins didnât really know that much about Altean physiology. Really, they didnât know anything about Alteans aside from their shape shifting abilities. But Coran had just assumed everyone knew about their longevity. Shrugging, he stroked his chin between two fingers for a moment, thinking of how long exactly he had been alive. And how long he could live.
Couldnât count the 10,000 years in stasis, obviously; he wasnât really alive for any of that, so already the field was narrowed. He was born around the time the Castle of Lions was being constructed, though nearing completion by a few decades or so. Voltron was being built, well, more like forged, during his time in the military, so thereâs another century or two. All up, he counted around 655 years, give or take a decade.
âWell, there was an Altean king who lived to the ripe old age of 2,476? But weâre not sure if thatâs true or not, there was a lot of history scratched out every few millennia on Altea. But I suppose the average would be aroooouuund-â He counted the numbers on his fingers, eyeing them as if his life depended on this equation, â1,200?â
