@crybaby-ninja !
kakashi is supposed to be learning how to be a real shonbi. they were supposed to learn things from each other, the way a proper team should, and they’re supposed to build each other up by sharing knowledge. minato is supposed to teach them, because he’s sensei. he’s supposed to teach them how to survive, how to take a life, how to improve their strategy from the academy. he’s supposed to teach kakashi things that are far beyond chuunin-level, and ninja theory that kakashi is supposed to drink in.
and instead, they’re here. on request of a yamanaka — their first name doesn't’ matter, kakashi knows that he’ll never see them again or have to interact with them in a way that does matter. their mission is to help sell flowers, dust around the shop, even fix pottery that’s long been broken. there’s no useful jutsu here, nothing that’s long term for them. and, he’s been paired with obito. it’s incomprehensible to kakashi, even as he sets to work. as much as he hates missions like this, he’s going to give it his all. he’s a perfectionist by blood.
'be creative with your arrangement’, the yamanaka had suggested. they’re shinobi, and yet, their hands are being used for decoration, instead of being bathed in blood. ‘be original with your design, make it beautiful, we could use a little bit of originality in our shop’. and with that, the yamanaka had disappeared into the back of his shop, and left obito and kakashi to their own devices. he doesn’t understand why he’s here. flowers are — he doesn’t get why they’re considered beautiful.
they’re obnoxious, they’re bright, they also very smelly, together in one place. his hand comes to his mask, tugging it up a little bit further, just to make sure to cover all he can. rin would have been a better pick for this job, she just seems to know things. rin is far more sensitive person than he’ll ever be, which was nine years more of emotional sensitivity than kakashi ever had. plus, she’d be in a confined space with obito, instead of him. he looks at the pot, and the flowers next to it, before looking over at obito. who...seems to be in his element. something cruel, ( jealousy, maybe, that even someone like obito is able to grasp the concept and the beauty of flowers so easily. ) curls in his stomach, and kakashi frowns under his mask.
“ — hey. your arrangement looks like you barfed over it. you really think that someone is going to want to buy that? “ not that kakashi has much room to really talk, seeing as how he hasn’t even started.
