It is BY FAR the best out of any place I’ve seen! Don’t go on Amazon, don’t go on Etsy.  Those sites are grossly over priced.  I see a lot of people trying to sell stuff for WAY MORE than it’s worth and it really makes me mad.  

I mean, $2.50 for an ounce of Lavender flowers from France! 

OR go to Mountain Rose Herbs. You can save $1.00 by buying lavender there.  (They sell it for $9.00 for 4oz.)  They’re prices for herbs are great, too! 

Spirit Apothecary has better prices for essential oils though- for example: Bergamot Essential Oil is $8.00 @ S.A. for 1/3 oz.  it costs $16.50 @ M.R.H. for ½ oz.  That’s over twice the price, but you don’t get twice as much, so I get all essential Oils at S.A.

MRH doesn’t sell, crystals, but SA does.  They are good quality and by far the most inexpensive.  Also they both have a facebook page.

Tumblr makes talking to gods seem really casual and “every day”. Like your gonna be sitting having long talks with Freyja about the current economy.

It can also make you feel like you have to have had all these signs sense you were like 4 years old or something that you should work with a specific deity. Or sings that you should always have been pagan. Or even that you should have only ever been pagan in order to be “valid”.

And you might feel like not conforming to this makes you not “a real witch” or that you shouldn’t be on the so called “witchblr”. And gods forbid right that you have a crush on Chris Hemsworth???

Well I’m here to tell as an ex-christan and massive Marvel Cinematic Universe geek that this is not the case.

You do not have to have had any massive signs that you should worship a deity. You do not have to have been a pagan from the start. You are not a bad witch or pagan or worshipper if Sif doesn’t sit down with you and descus hair extensions over your morning coffee.

It doesn’t matter who you are or how you got here. Anyone should be welcome in the witchcraft community on tumblr!

I’ve told quite a few people about my pancake offering… and almost all of them have a problem with me offering my Goddess a simple thing. They call it silly. They call it flat. They call it absurd. They call it me being mentally ill.

Listen: the gods, unless they have specifically asked for something, do not care what you offer them. It could be a pancake, or water, or milk, or the smoke from your cigarette, or a daily walk, or even an offering of the breath you breathe. What matters is that your offering…. Comes from your heart.

The gods don’t want anything half-assed, this is what I have come to understand. You could offer your goddess or God all the things a recipe for devotion [found online or in a book] says that he/she likes… and your offering not be well-met or accepted.

Believe it or not, I’ve had this happen.

I used to take recipes and make devotions and offerings.. and the next day, I KNEW that they were not accepted, nor appreciated. Why? Because it didn’t come from me.

Sure, I made the items/meals/etc, but there was no personal touch to the offering or devotion. There was no piece of me.

When I threw the recipes away and started offering my goddess what I had, what I could give, of ANYTHING [yes, even a pancake], I found that She almost always accepted the devotion. I had taken the time to decide what to give Her, to prepare it for Her. I put myself into my devotion, no matter what it was.

And THAT’S THE POINT OF AN OFFERING: to give a little bit of yourself [or all of yourself] to the gods. They don’t need money or food or spirits. 1) they aren’t human and their lives don’t depend on what ours do and 2) THEY GAVE ALL OF THIS TO US.

So… next time you make an offering to your gods, try something a little personal, a little mental, a little crazy.

I’ve only barely scratched the surface of helping the island and her spirits heal, because the damage was so severe and so many oral traditions and deistic lore is just gone. We only have the vaguest notions of what the native Tainos worshiped and did in their rituals. It does not help that even the ‘diverging’ of our populace of our mostly indoctrinated island full of Christians still say the same kind of phrases and notions as the most pious of Catholics, in places like crystal shops, new age stores, botanicas and more.

I had never even thought of this.

Made this list for my fellow witchies who like their kitchen to be full of the green stuff :

Basil : like lots of sun and warmth. More difficult to grow in the winter months

Bay : needs plenty of sun and fresh air.

Chives : needs at least 6 hours of sun and plenty of water.

Dill : prefers slightly acidic soil, needs plenty of sunlight, doesn’t need too much water.

Lemongrass : My personal favorite as you don’t plant it in soil. Grow in a couple of inches of water. Easiest to grow.

Mint : needs plenty of water and needs to be placed in an area with indirect light. Harvest frequently.

Oregano : does not deal well with cold and drastic temperature changes could kill it.

Parsley : Doesn’t require too much light or maintenance, but is a slow grower.

Rosemary : needs 6 - 8 hours of strong, direct sunlight. Only water when the top layer of soil feels dry. Needs good ventilation. A bit trickier to grow.

Sage : Needs plenty of sun. 

Thyme : Needs 6 - 8 hours of sunlight a day and maybe even supplemental light.

A garden journal is something you can take up to keep track of your garden and current plants. You can have it be a general overview of documentation on all your plants, day-by-day record of things that happen to your garden or a combination of all. 

Some ideas for your garden journal 

-Care notes on all your current plants. Sun, soil and water needs. Common pests and diseases and how to cure and prevent. How often to prune or harvest. 

-Record the date you got a plant and mark significant changes. Day it blooms, day you harvested it, etc 

-Drawings or pressed samples or your current plants 

-Magical uses for your plants

🖱 Chalk is made out of calcium and limestone, stones which have grounding and fortifying properties, and is easily wiped away at the end of your ritual or spell. It has many uses such as:

🖱 Writing sigils

🖱 Listing and drawing other correspondences for your items to charge on

I don’t really know what people generally call this method of sigil making, so I’m just calling it “Letter Shaping” because you’re using the basic shapes from certain letters. This is the most common form of sigil making, and it allows the most creative influence. As you see above the sigils are for nearly the same thing, yet the sigils came out completely different. Not because the purpose was different, but because I approached them both a different creative way, and that’s what I like so much about this method. There’s a lot of freedom and personalization involved.

One thing I’ve noticed as I’ve started teaching tarot cards to other people is that they have a tendency to think that every card has an individual meaning and it is their duty to memorize 78 complex sets of meanings before they can begin reading for others. 

That’s simply not true. 

It’s also incredibly inefficient and totally kneecaps you when you move on to learn another deck (and try memorizing ANOTHER 78 complex sets of meanings). Cards exist in relation to one another. Understanding those relationships lets you remember meanings quicker, better understand how cards in a spread might be connected, and give much smoother readings. 

If you’re learning Tarot for the first time or looking to bush up, here’s my advice after reading cards for 10 years. Please, learn from my mistakes.  Tarot is a language

In the same way you learn letters and string them into words and then string words into sentences to communicate, tarot is a language you learn so your intuition can communicate more fully with you and others. And like a language, it’s often best to start with the phrases that you’ll use the most. 

Practice: Go through your deck and pick out no more than 12 cards that are really calling to you and look up those meanings. Write them down if you’re up for it. Go through your deck and pick out no more than 12 cards that give you a feeling of unease and do the same. Notice any reoccurring symbols?

  Tarot is a story

How you understand that story may vary on your tradition, your experience level, your aims. Most standard Tarot decks follow the Fool’s Journey through the Major Arcana as he becomes more skilled and then more enlightened. A similar pattern can be seen in each of the suits. The Court Cards are less narrative in my opinion but a similar progression can be seen. 

Practice: Take out each of the suits one at a time and lay them out in a row. Read the meanings of each card and see how the story progresses. Write down a summary. Do the same with each of other suits’ courts and the major arcana.

Tarot is a system

You aren’t fluent until you know the language well enough to speak smoothly and in most situations. Similarly, it takes understanding Tarot at a high level to give the best quality readings and read without a book. No card exists in isolation and just like when they show up in a reading, you must read them in relation to the rest of the spread - it helps a lot to know them in relation to the rest of the deck.
